I've read all the other threads and prejudiced views against gay people.. it is not whether we agree or not, or whether your god approves.. but the fact that we have gay people in society and in our families and can't change that fact..
I have a murderer in my family .. I certainly don't approve of killing people but he still has to be included.. there are other distasteful family members who I'd rather not include.. but family history is just that.. history.. to be true to our research we can't judge or select who is included..
Tribal Pages.. this is the 21st century.. lets see you give the option of adding a partner of the same sex..
Prejudice is a conclusion being reached without full knowledge or forethought. Regarding this subject I am guilty of neither of those definitions and, after considerable thought, same sex marriage is still alien to my upbringing and religious beliefs. However, this law, in UK, was a vote rigging manoeuvre and as such we must accept it.
Thanks for replying..
My feature request is quite simple..
When adding a spouse, the option of selecting male or female. What is so hard about that.. how can that be offensive. ?
I have this option in 'Family Historian' ..
Family History has to be recorded accurately..without prejudice.. using a workaround is a cop out..
Not interested in peoples beliefs, religion.. or entering into a debate about the morals of same sex marriages... or the voting system in the UK..
Not interested in much, are you?
I was not differing with your request - I don't care whether you get your wish, or not. I was merely pointing out that the facility is already there. I will go quietly away now with the thought that a consideration on same sex unions is exactly what you got involved in when you asked TP to change their programme. Ted
same sex marriage is still alien to my upbringing and religious beliefs.
By you mentioning that you have a Murderer in your family, are you also requesting that , there should be the option to add these under their own heading also .
No use the Male and Female Gender and put your same sex couple under those.
Most of the MALE same sex marriages or partners call them selves Husband and Wife, and as it is only TEXT use this, as I have previously mentioned.
Mention in NOTES or in the persons Tree Use EVENTS and select CUSTOM and add what you wish to explain .

thanks for replying...
see above reply..
" Not interested in peoples beliefs, religion "
This is the typical attitude of Gays and Lesbians, as these are the people voting for Gay Marriages, and yet these sincere Gay Marriages are in the minority. Speaks for itself doesnt it.
As you are commenting on your Tree, what difference does a work around make. It will show what you want on just TWO particular people, unless GAYS are prevelant in your tree.
How many people will see this particular part of your tree to warrent altering a program?,

I and other TP members have requested a 'feature' that many other family history software already has..
Am still waiting on a reply from the TP admin..
James, in edit mode when you wish to add a partner for a same sex marriage, you click on edit and up comes "add spouse/partner". No mention of sex. When the partner is added he/she is shown as "married". Again no mention of sex.
You then have the option of adding notes, also "events' and/or your own "custom" events.
It is all there. What more do you want. I think Tribalpages has it set up exceptionally well for you to record same sex marriages. Or, do you think T/P should add something so we can clearly "advertise" the sex of a person. That may start some interesting debate.
Pink or Blue box header denotes sex... or am I missing something.. ?
If you add a partner to a male it automatically assumes female .. so they have a pink box .. and visa versa..
why would 'advertising the sex of a person start some interesting debate' ... it is already done using PINK and BLUE Box headers..that is indeed a puzzling remark..
do you think two blue or two pink boxes would see TP servers go up in flames.. ?
Thanks for the replies.. I will email TP admin. direct or ask on the FB page.. .. no more to add.
However on giving this a try. experimentally, I found the Tribalpages system would not allow this to happen. It would only accept the partnership if one of the two was originally entered as the opposite sex.
Maybe this is where T/P need to look at their program. I personally, don't care one way or the other but I suppose a family history site like Tribalpages should look at catering for same sex marriages. Personally I will be satisfied to use processes that are there at present but that is only my view.
that's all I asked..
Whether we agree/disagree, like or dislike, our personal beliefs and feelings should never influence our recording accurately our family history..
sometimes unpleasant or distasteful.. but when we open the closet door we must be willing and able to accept whatever skeletons fall out.. and record the information acuretly without prejudice.. If not then we should give up..
Same sex marriage is now legal in almost every western nation.. including the US, Scotland, England Eire, and Wales ..

Thanks for your input
This would then keep records up to date, until such times the program allows for this. This does not seem to satisfy some as they are so pedantic in their views.
Pink is and always has been associated with GAYS , and in these Marriages and Partnerships, there is one who is definitely more female
In the 1970s, gay liberation groups resurrected the pink triangle as a popular symbol for the gay rights movement. Not only is the symbol easily recognized, Today, for many the pink triangle represents pride,As the pink triangle is historically a male symbol.
The black triangle has similarly been reclaimed by lesbians and feminists as a symbol of pride and solidarity.
Why not keep your site up to date with the workaround, that I have suggested, and all the others that I have in the past.
