Hi,

The People >> Name Index gives names with spouse and parents. Can the email address of the "Name" be added ?

Also an option to "download" it as xl file ?

Thanks

Seshadri , e-mails more or less commenced in 1993, and the NAME Index, goes back to your earliest Ancestor in your Tree.

I have some dated in 1400, and I do not believe that they have e mail addresses, or that they could answer if they did

All the best

Les,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am definitely keen on it.

The name Index currently has the following fields/columns:

Name LifeSpan Marriage Father Mother

OR

Name Birth Death Spouse Father Mother

Better to change Marriage to Spouse in the basic Basic view, to be consistent in the naming convention for both Basic and Detailed views; also Spouse makes a better heading for the details provided for that field ( which is same as Spouse's name)

Coming to my original request, I am asking that an additional field/column called email be created and list the email address of the "Name", IF AVAILABLE. This is similar to all other fields/columns, in which the field 'value' is listed only if available.

In addition, for the "Address Book" listing, if the 'Name' and 'email' are listed side by side in a tabular format, it becomes easy to copy/paste the info in an xl file. Of course nothing like providing an xl download option.

Thanks

Seshadri

Hi Seshadri , I believe you are missing the point.

What I was pointing out, is that there would be very few e-mail addresses, as this covers the whole of your tree, with

Ancestors of years gone by before e-mail was thought of.

Surely in your XL file you can just add an extra column, and put your own Heading. This would only take a few minutes at the most. Why would you need Tribal Pages to do this for you ?

Hi Seshadri, with that program you can select as many or less Fields that you wish, and then add any more that you like, such as e-mails.

Have a look at my helpful site, that may interest you.

Go into edit mode and click on the name of a LIVING PERSON and you will see that there is provision for adding email addresses.

Personally I cannot see a need for anything more than this.

Also People > address book > names of living people with contact details > click on person brings up email address.

Do we need more than this ???.

Hi Les, Alan,

Thanks for your msgs. My combined, late reply:

1. I am talking about living people that have email.

2. Agree, email started about 25 years back, whereas many family trees will have list of people born much before that. But many of them, say born before 1915, may not be alive now. In my tree, I could trace only 3 generations up, and but for 1, all the 31 are no more. About 100 of the 560 people from my generation down ( born as early as 1940), regularly use email and I have updated it in my tree. For the rest, I need to update their email id. And all new additions should definitely use email. Of course now people are hooked on to Social networking and other means of communication.

3. Tried GED EXLATE Program that Les suggested. It captures many data fields, nicely tabulated in xl, however does not include email. Its a very old build (24/Apr/2009), doubt any further development is taking place. Any way to contact/request gedmagic developers to include this field ?

4. I know how to edit and add email to any person.

5. As I had already indicated, People >> Address book, click on a person brings up email address.

( "The following are names of living persons in this tree that have contact 'infomation'. Click on a name to display their address, email or phone number.")

The issue here is, clicking on each name to get the details. If the Name, Address, email, phone number can be displayed in a tabular form, it suffices.

In summary:

1. The data element (email) is available in TP (if entered).

2. Two places where it can be 'displayed' - Name Index, Address Book. In the Name Index, add an email column and list the data element. Or in the Address book, in a tabular form.

In addition, I had also pointed out to change "Marriage" to "Spouse" in Name Index >> Basic view, to be consistent in the naming convention with Detailed view.

Hi Seshadri, i only mentioned GED EXLATE to elp you compose an Excel File, and just select the Fields that you may need. I also pointed out it is such a simple job of adding your e-mail Field then to this Excel File.

Obviously you would then have to add ( Just a Copy and Paste )the e-mail addresses to the persons ( your 100)'

Once you have done this it would be a simple job to add any New ones. No need for this to be added by Tribal pages, as surely this is part of the process of doing something to your own tree, as and when it would be required.

Marriage in Basic view is correct as it puts MULTIPLE where required, and Spouse in Detail gives the Names and any information that is added , this is the meaning of DETAILS..

Hi Les,

Wish you Happy and Prosperous year 2016.

Yes and NO to your suggestion.

Yes, not simple, but I can add the 100+ email ids to the xl generated by GED EXPLATE.

NO, every time I add a person to TP, I need to manually add ALL the details in the xl file. As, another GED EXPLATE from the updated tree will not have email ids.

Not a good, easy, workable solution.

I will stop here, as its clear TP does not / will not do any feature enhancements. This Feature Request is just an eye wash.

Wonder whether ANY Feature Request has ever been implemented.
