Same sex couple

I've seen there are a couple of requests for this from a while ago, and yet we are still unable to put same-sex couple on our trees.

Why is this? It's 2016...same-sex marriage is legal in so many parts of the world.

You are forcing so many of us to neglect parts of our trees or to alter them so that they are false. Is it really so difficult to amend the site so we can pair a man with a man or a woman with a woman?

Genealogy is about the bloodlines of your family - same sex partners cannot create a child.

This is a genealogy website not just a family tree.

There is an option to Mark children as adotted, so that explanation doesn't really make any sense.

Hi Tracy,

Eileen is 100% correct. It is so hard to convince the Gay community, although as you mention

"Why is this? It's 2016...same-sex marriage is legal in so many parts of the world."

This has only come about, because it seemed that all Gays voted for it,whether they agreed with it or not and yet the Marriages are so few and far between, that the majority of you have no intention of getting married. At a wild guess I would say no more than ONE PERCENT have got "MARRIED"

I have suggested ways to input a Gay Couples, Marriage or partnership.

This would then keep records up to date, until such times the program may allow for this. This does not seem to satisfy some as they are so pedantic in their views.

Pink is and always has been associated with GAYS , and in these Marriages and Partnerships, there is one who is definitely more female

In the 1970s, gay liberation groups resurrected the pink triangle as a popular symbol for the gay rights movement. Not only is the symbol easily recognized, Today, for many the pink triangle represents pride,As the pink triangle is historically a male symbol.

The black triangle has similarly been reclaimed by lesbians and feminists as a symbol of pride and solidarity.

Why not keep your site up to date with the workaround, that I have suggested, and all the others that I have in the past.

Regards

Les

Yeah...I've seen this reply already on other threads, and it's still horribly offensive and narrow-minded.

Firstly, I know plenty of straight people who voted for marriage equality. It's because they aren't bigots. It's because they know people are people, and we don't choose who we love. That God that people keep spouting about told his followers to love everyone, but people seem to have forgotten that.

Secondly...No. Gay couples do not adopt genders. Narrow-minded straight people like to assume one half of a gay male couple must be "the woman", or that one half of a gay female couple must be "the man", but it's simply not true.

I have people who need to go on my tree as couples. Some are both male and some are both female. Listing them as the wrong gender would be inappropriate and offensive.

As for the bloodline thing...well, as I already said, there's an option to list children as adopted, and that's nothing to do with your bloodline.

It's ok, though. I found a website that lives in the current century and will allow me to represent the people I care about as they actually are.

Hi Tracy, why and I must say YOU PEOPLE always state that we are offensive and narrow-minded bigots.

You refuse to see our point of view and yet we are constantly forced to see yours.

I have always believed in Live and Let Live, but you are just talking about a GENEALOGY program, that you must have your way.

Glad that you have found a PROGRAM that is not.

Hi Les,

Thankyou for pointing out that I am, in fact, a person. I already knew that, but it's nice of you to say.

Why do you assume that I'm gay, just because I'm in favour of marriage equality? Is it because to think otherwise would upset your world view?

Your point of view is that someone who is different to you is wrong. Being gay is NOT a point of view.

Yes. A genealogy programme. If we're going with the definition of genealogy being that it's to trace the bloodline of a family, again I must ask why this programme allows you to mark children as adopted? Adopted children have no impact on a bloodline.

It's not that I must have my way, I just think it would be nice to be able to include everyone. In fact, I do wonder why you are so terribly offended by the idea of being able to list same-sex couples? Would it really hurt you so much? You wouldn't be forced to have same-sex couples on your tree, so it wouldn't affect you at all.

Hi Tracy, I believe that you are getting mixed up.Nowhere have I mentioned this

"In fact, I do wonder why you are so terribly offended by the idea of being able to list same-sex couples?" also

I cannot see any sense in this

"Thank you for pointing out that I am, in fact, a person. I already knew that, but it's nice of you to say."

My site is open and I have Homosexuals and Lesbians in my site. very close members of my family are these, and I am cetainly not against them

I like many others do not believe in the , to us SO CALLED MARRIGES. Stay as partners if you so wish.

As I have mentioned you do not wish or try to see others point of view , that this does not seem normal and is also abhorrent to some of us.

I cannot see any point on going any further with you on this subject.

What's the website!? I'm looking to move my "fabulous" tree :D I actually spent a good deal of time seeking this site out and making sure it had the functions I wanted/ required. The same sex marriage thing didn't cross my radar initially but for two years I have been waiting for this function. I'm ready to move my paid membership elsewhere.

TOTALLY AGREE. I have actually emailed tribalpages about this twice. I don't understand the replies here where people are saying if same sex can't reproduce.. wow.. Can I just include my family in my family tree? That would be so fabulous. IF one does not want to use this function because they don't have a same sex marriage, fine. BUT my tree has more than one. I am not in a same sex marriage yet this is still important to me.

Hi Tracy

in case that you have missed this

*****************************

We have updated the system to allow for same sex partners and parents. Sorry it took so long. When you add a spouse/partner the person defaults to the opposite sex but we have added the option to change the gender of the person that allowing for same sex as partner. Also when adding father or mother you can change the sex so that both parents can be male or female.

When selecting a spouse/partner or father/mother from a list of existing names, we now provide the ability to change the selection list's gender.
