About The Minyag/Thaktok Sherpa Family
Tashi Deley and Welcome again to The Minyag/Thaktok Sherpa Family website!

We, the descendants’ of Minyag Gey Gyelbo, are excited to unite the Minyag / Thaktok Sherpa family from around the world through this website. This Minyag / Thaktok Sherpa Family Tree will be a cornerstone for our future generations to identify who they are and will be a platform for extended families to stay in touch with each other.

There are four main proto-clans in our Sherpa genealogy. They are Minyag, Thimi, Chakpa and Sarva. These four proto-clans or patriarchal clans are called "original tribes or pure Sherpas". Apart from these four main clans or patriarchal clans, there are more than fifteen new clans, which are identified by their father's lineage. Apart from this there are four other pseudo clans. Descendants of the Minyag proto-clans include Thaktok, Pinasa, Garja, Gole, Yulkhongma, Pankarma, Shire, and Chogyal.

When we look at the history of Sherpas, we are constantly moving from one place to another, including me. One study found that "Sherpa heritage patterns, and Sherpa cultural beliefs that a person can do financially well by leaving and re-starting." In the process, we have already lost a lot of valuable information about our ancestors. But if we start collecting their information already, at least we won't lose the rest of our grandparents' information. So I hope that all our brothers and sisters in the Minyag tribe will help me by sending their family information to sherpaaj@hotmail.com. I will keep updating your family information on this site accordingly. Your valuable ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
