About Patrick Geoghegan Family Tree
Please sign in to see more. Welcome to the family web site that traces not only our ancestors who left the countries of their birth to come to Massachusetts but their descendants and the lives they made here. The site continues to be updated as new info is found. In this age of technology and DNA testing, tracing your roots has a whole new meaning. Peg & I would appreciate if you have something to contribute or if any info is inaccurate to let us know. Our hope is that the next generation will appreciate the time and effort that has gone into compiling this info to give everyone of us a better understanding of who we are and how far we have come. Check out the Stories under People to get a sense of what life was like for those that came before us and also check out the Photo Albums for several towns that our ancestors settled in to see what they were like.
As a teenager I (Geri Liborio-Vasile) remember someone calling my home and asking my mother Rita Gargan Liborio about her family. That someone turned out to be James Goodfellow (1952) and months later we rec'd a handwritten family tree with an abundance of info on the family of Patrick (Hohegan/Geoghegan) Gargan & Margaret O'Toole/Toole from Oughterard, County Galway, Ireland whose 4 children came to Massachusetts.
Fast forward to 2005 when Peg Williamson decided to upload that info to Ancestry.com. I was looking for a hobby and little did I know that it would become such a rewarding experience and lead to meeting relatives that I didn't even know existed.
My original goal was to find photos of my Great Grandparents who came here from Ireland & Italy. I did find photos of Lawrence Bryne/Burns & Margaret McPartlin/McPartland as well as Margaret Geoghegan Gargan but not a photo of her husband Thomas Geoghegan/Gargan. A photo found in the attic of my father Lester Liborio's childhood home of a young girl and her mother which was taken in Italy is believed to be my Grandmother Angeolina Porotti Liborio and her mother Maria Guglielmi Porotti. Even after a trip to Comabbio and Ternate Italy and photographing various headstones with the names Liborio, Guglielmi and Porotti I didn't find any additional info on my Great Grandparents but did find other assorted family members.
In May 2009 Peg, Roby and I went to Ireland and visited Oughterard and took photos of the headstones and actually met numerous people with the last name of Geoghegan. The Oughterard Heritage web site has an enormous amount of info and a gentlemen by the name of Jim Fahy has been very helpful in helping me obtain additional info.
Lawrence Byrne/Burns & his sister Mary Byrne/Burns came from Fethard, County Tipperary, Ireland and settled in Ashland and their brother Thomas went to Queensland, Australia . Unfortunately he never married so we don't have any Aussie relatives.
The Williamson's came from the counties of Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire, England. The Doherty's came from County Donegal, Ireland. The Grover's came from England. The Austin's came here around 1670 but I don't know from where. The Schuck's came from Bruecken, Pfalz Bavaria. The Lord's came from England. The Acton's, Curley's & Flaherty's came from Oughterard, County Galway, Ireland. The Goodfellow's from County Tyrone, Ireland. The O'Grady's/Grady's from County Waterford, Ireland.
Many relatives looked through their old photos and their parents old photos and sent them to us so be sure to check out the albums. Photos are only able to be put in one album so the best way to find photos/info on someone is to go under People, Last Names and then click on the person your interested in. All photos associated with them will be attached and if you click on the photo there may be additional info noted. |
