KIA ORA ANA RANUINUI... Welcome to Atiu-nui-
maruarua Website, my name is Teariki Kura and I am
the Owner and Administrator of this website. I have
dedicated this website to the memory of my father
"Pakura" who have without any doubt left a big
impact on us in compliments to his work of writing
his own genealogy and those who are closely related
to him.. and as well as to the three chiefs and
the various tribes of Atiu. Below is the beginning
and the populating of our little island Atiu.
During my fathers lifetime we have seen his work,
such as story telling, teaching cultural values to
many Atiuan groups, composing some of the many
beautiful songs of past events that we enjoy today.

It all started here the creation of Atiu. Te
akamata anga o te enua e te tangata.

Mariri Toa, Mariri Manu, Mariri Ariki is the same
person, but of different titles he has acquired
when he discovered Enuamanu (Atiu) having located
Atiu from Takutea where he and his family lived
for so many days maybe months before they realised
that there is a bigger island to the south of
Takutea. He came to Atiu on the vaka called Te-
 Kuti-kuti-Rau-Matangi (meaning; The Sharp Edged
Leaf in the wind). This is how Atiu was populated.

I have created this website to ensure that our
unique identity, language, culture and sense of
belonging are firmly conveyed to our children and
to many future generations to come. Feel free to
view this and link yourself into one of the many
ancestors I have mentioned, and don't get me wrong
I am only following details and information
written by my father (Pakura) in which I have
managed to connect me to "Pokerekere" that started
in Avaiki Nui and Avaiki Runga. (meaning the last or
 forgotten frontier or settlement)

When I started on this website in 2006, I simply
created it for my family only, but over the last
few years, I have received emails from Atiuan
asking if I could help them trace their ancestors,
as they do not have any records of their akapapa.
This is how the website "Atiu-nui-maruarua.Atiu
 Genealogy" was born.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
