About Family of Jack & Patrick Atkins
Thank you for visiting our site.

Patrick and I are part of the Atkins/Atkinson family of Fentress County, Tennessee. Other surnames in our family tree include Adkins, Overstreet, Norman, Key, Peters, Hall, Stephens, Kennedy, Howard, Jones, Branstetter, Letsinger, Bowden, Mullinix and Wilson. All of these branches have roots on Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau as well as in Virginia and North Carolina.

This site, and my research, are works in progress. I have gathered much of my data from the Find A Grave and Family Search websites. Both are good resources, but not always accurate or complete. As time permits, I will correct errors and fill in gaps.

My DNA test of late 2020 shows I share similar YDNA with men who trace their lineage back to William Adkins, Sr. (1689-1754) of Henrico County, Virginia. I am most interested in connecting my 4th GGF Joel Atkinson (1780-1833) to William Sr.

Family research exposes gaps and questions. I am constantly editing and rewriting the stories as I find additional and more accurate information - or further questions.

I thank Patrick for his interest in our ancestors and coming along with me for drives over the beautiful Cumberland Plateau as we search out old homeplaces and burial sites. Those times are my favorite.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
