About The Fleming Family
Please sign in to see more.
This is the Fleming , Bennett, Mooney , Brannigan ,McIlroy & Stewart family tree it is
here to pay homage to all who have gone before us , as without any of the named people I or my kin would not be here today. My family hail from Glasgow but my ancestors were Printers & Merchants of Edinburgh the earliest I have is William 1769-1835 and 5 of his sons all becoming printers with numerous nephews & nieces Grandsons Great Grandsons and Granddaughters in the name of Frances Amy Fleming born 1891 died in 1948 at the young age of 57 being employed as a Compositor in the Male dominated world of the Printing in the early 20th Century, indeed my Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandad David Fleming(the only break in the William Line)had a brother named Leslie Fleming who wrote a short book when he was an Octogenerian in 1893 of his recollections of the bygone days of the Printers of Edinburgh in which he describes the beginnings of the Stereotypers of which his family and indeed my own had been Dominant , the line finally stopped a few generations back at my own
Great-Great-Great-Grandfather William Fleming 1825-1881 his son went on to be an Iron Dresser in the Iron Foundries of Possilpark were my family were born & bred . The Bennett family from my maternal side is a proud and patriotic one in as much as the male line has been involved with the armed forces since William Bennett 1830 through his sons and grandsons down to the latest George Bennett serving his country , not too mention my nephew William McGuigan a Lance corporal in the Royal Highland Fusiliers. My own Great Grandad sacrificed his life in WW1 and my grandad Henry Bennett in WW2.Both the Fleming's and Bennett families have indeed served this country in all the armed forces my own Grandad served with the Ground crews of the R.A.F, my Grandad Bennett lost his life supplying the country in the merchant Navy, and various cousins and branches of this my extended family have served it well. I hope I haven't left anyone out and will strive to keep it as up to date as I can , I have met people from all over the globe in my search for Fleming's with a distant cousin Elizabeth Fleming who's father was William Fleming grandson of David Bell Fleming to Alexandra Kowalski who was the Great-Great-Grandaughter of Leslie Fleming the man who wrote the book , to all the branches of this tree I am eternally proud to be their Kin.
