About Ridouts of the Cheverells
Please sign in to see more.
Until 2004 I knew very little about my ancestry, but with the aid of my brother who knew so much more than I, an enthusiastic cousin who had old photos and yet more knowledge, a computer (and a patient wife who showed me how to use it), I began a journey into my past.

Within weeks I discovered Little Cheverell in Wiltshire where, in the 1860's and 70's, three brothers left home to earn their living. George Ridout went to Plymouth and a life at sea.
Steven and Jacob Ridout came to Wales.
Steven settled in the mining community of Bedwas in Monmouthshire where his descendents still live and Jacob came to Dinas Powis where he married, founded a coal haulage business and sired fourteen children!

Jacob was my Great-Grandfather and the link back to Little Cheverell and through his Grandfather, Great Cheverell - hence the title of this site.

Hot on the heels of the Ridouts came the Claytons of Whitchurch, Herefordshire, the Fensomes of Kimpton, Hertfordshire and the Smiths of Southwick, Wiltshire and their many ancestors and descendants.

Alongside the Ridout tree is that of the Joneses, my wife's family, with its Welsh and English roots and links to the Channel Islands, Northern Ireland, Canada and the U.S.A.

Our tree continues to grow and with it the living contacts we have made worldwide - thanks to you all for your help, advice, input and support!

'Remember me in the family tree - my name, my days, my strife;
Then I'll ride upon the wings of time and live an endless life.'

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
