About The Cayford and Goode Connection
I have been researching my paternal Grandmother's tree for about 15 years or more. My paternal Grandmother Margaret Alison Cayford was such a character and I was very fortunate to have known her for all of my chidhood and her strong stubborn and independant nature has definately influenced me!!

The "Cayford" Family tree has been my particular love, and a great hobby over the years. The family as I know it so far started with James Cayford born 1760 in Frome, Somerset. His son James Cayford born in Frome in 1796 eventually moved up to London just before 1825 as a Coachmaker and Wheelwright. He and his family lived in Marylebone, at about the same time as Charles Dickens. James' brother John Cayford b1798 in Frome, also left Frome for London, and became one of the very first Metropolitan Policeman in 1829 on the Holborn beat. He had a good and honest career in the force and I have followed his line a few
 generations as well.

I have lots of stories about the Cayfords, including those who died for their country, high fliers who made their mark in the business world and many who emigrated to the US and Canada. In fact the Cayfords were a well travelled family.

My grandmother's maternal side The "Goodes" (Tailors) were good old Eastenders, they derive from Ratcliff and Limehouse right on the bank of The River Thames, and the "Jupps" (timber merchants) they all eventually moved away from the horrors of inner London to the fresher air of Essex. I have a few stories here, mainly of business ventures, bankruptcy, property holdings and one embarassing story of aan Old Bailey court proceeding for rape which got all the Newspapers talking about what a suitable sentance was.

I have yet to meet any surviving Goodes, or Jupps, but I have "met" several Cayford descendants now over the internet. My Cayford direct line was unfortunately wiped out by the First World War.

Have fun looking at this site, and if you feel you are connected/related in anyway please do contact me, especially if you have any photos to share.
