Strangers in the Box
Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white,
 Faces proud, still, serene.

I wish I knew the people,
 These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories
 Are lost among my socks.

I wonder what their lives were like.
How did they spend their days?
 What about their special times?
 I'll never know their ways.

If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what, where, when,
 These faces of my heritage
 Would come to life again.

Could this become the fate
Of the pictures we take today?
 The faces and the memories
 Someday to be tossed away?

Make time to save your pictures,
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours could be
 The strangers in the box.

A couple notes -

This is a work in progress, I strive to be as accurate as possible, if you notice any errors please contact me.

In regards to the locations it is City, County, State. If there are only two places listed it is County, State.

There are DNA tests available on the Couch, Houghton and Cowan lines for any males that still have these surnames. If interested check out the links below or contact me.

Some of the information gathered on Susan Dollie Hensley's family was found through James Hick's website on Cherokee Lineage found under the link section.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
