About Family Clark (DeClercq) and Jones

I have been researching our family history for over 30 years now. The first 10 years not a lot happened but with the internet things really changed. I met a lady named Lenny De Vos who has a web page about her home town of Meulebeke Belgium. This is the town where my grandmother was born and raised until the age of 14 when she came to the USA. Lenny was able to obtain access to the town and parish records of Meulebeke where I found tens of thousands of our ancestors. I also learned to access the Belgian archives so I was able to find thousands of relatives in other Belgian towns. I had several DNA test done and on the Clark side they show we are descendants of Maurice Prendergast born 1125 in Belgium. Maurice was a Flemish knight who with his sons helped Strongbow invaded Ireland in 1169. For their help they were rewarded with land in Waterford and Tipperary. Maurice would be around my 26th Grandfather.

Ancestry.com was a great tool to research my Mothers side of the family. Her family has been in the USA for many years . Lots of our relatives served in the Civil War. According to my DNA test we are related to Jesse James on this side. It also shows my eighth or ninth Grand Parent was a Native American. I have come across all kinds of information on our family most of it is posted on this sight.

The most exciting thing I have found in my search is meeting the Martin family. Al Martin is my great uncle. He passed away in 1966. My DNA matched with a lady from San Antonio. The test showed we were fourth cousins. She sent me a email asking me about a man named Al Martin and we figured out Al was Alphonse Maenhout my great uncle who was supposed to have died in a auto accident at the age of 16. Al did not died after all. He married and had 6 children and many grandchildren. His Maenhout- Clark family always assumed he was deceased but turns out he had a wonderful life.
