I initially began this site to work back my family primarily on my mother's side, however, in doing so I ended up branching way beyond that, so, while there are a lot of Townsend folks here, there are
also a whole lot of Van Prooyen's as well. I also have branched my wife's family back a ways as well, and will continue to do so as able. The bottom line...if you're related to me in any way, or my wife Tricia Cushing Van Prooyen, you're likely on this family tree project and it is a pleasure to have you here.
Here is a bit from the former intro, regarding the D.S. Townsend family:
To let you know just a tad about me, I am the eldest grandson of Ellis Townsend, one of D.S.' seven children. My mother is Carla (Townsend) Van Prooyen. I retired in 2013 from the US Air Force, and now live in Manassas, VA. I hope to have a lot of help from the second, third, and soon fourth generations and beyond in making this site a success. Note that the family tree file I uploaded initially to begin this site is my own and includes veins from all families I and my wife Tricia are part of, so you may see a number of names that you don't recognize, bear with that please. I'll edit what I can as I can.
And a bit about my Van Prooyen side:
I am the third grandchild of Nick and Lorraine Van Prooyen, and at the current time my two sons are the only two boys carrying on that line for their generation. I was third generation born in the states and my sons are fourth, as my Great Grandfather Jacob Van Prooyen was born in the Netherlands. I've recently found and added some great stuff on that part of my family, so hopefully
some of my family will be able to put it to good use!
If you have information, pictures, video or anything else you'd like to add to this page, please let me know and we'll get it done!
Enjoy!

Getting Around There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.
In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool. |
