Hello, my name is Denise (Harden) Jarrett, a Durden cousin. It is my passion and great desire to connect people with their ancestors. I don't want anyone to be forgotten. 

I have been gathering family history since 1988. My father, Walter Harden, Jr. began searching for the relatives on his father's side of the family. His father passed away when he was a young boy and it seemed as though there was a burning desire to find that side of the family after his mother passed away. 

As a truck driver, whenever he had a load through Louisiana, he would always stop at the truck stop on 79 and talk to folks and ask if they knew any Hardens. Eventually, he met Winston Mays and Rose Stephens, who introduced him to Allene (Durden) Fields, granddaughter of Margaret Harden and Jim Durden and descendants of Maggie Adams Stephens, daughter of Margaret Harden and Joe Adams. 

Margaret Harden-Durden was his father's sister (my great aunt). So, after each trip through Louisiana, he would stop in Greenwood and meet more cousins. So I began to document the cousins to keep track of who was who. Later, I began researching to find other cousins and their families.

Collecting the rich heritage of our roots and the branches that have grown over the years has become a full-time endeavor and passion. I want to preserve the history of our families and make the information available for future generations.  If you have stories and special memories, please share them here and help make our families stories come alive and more personal. I can also use more pictures. It is amazing how often there is a close resemblance for relatives separated by generations.
