About Keith Tangled Branches
Please sign in to see more. Elmer Thomas Keith was born July 25, 1918 and died October 16, 2000 of prostate cancer which eventually developed into bladder cancer. His father was George Thomas Keith and his mother was Pearl Phillips Keith and she died when Elmer was 4 years old. Pearl had 9 children at the time of her death and all the younger children went to various homes. At the time of her death she had Manuel, Carmel, Anis, Evelyn, Dewey, Elmer,
Birdie, Dorothy and Pearl.
George then married Hallie Martin who already had 4 children (Ernestine, Dora Ella Mae, Mildred Hartman and Rena Francis who died at the age of one.)
and then George and Hallie had 10 children:
George Howell Keith, Thelma Myrtle Keith, Hallie Catherine, George Sidney, Alafia Loretta, Joseph Daniel, Vida Corrine, Daymond Hope, Wanda Jean and John Venoia Keith.
Elmer Keith never talked about his childhood much. I've been on a search to find out all about my family and it's becoming very interesting and overwhelming of how much family we have. Elmer "Tommie" Keith had 18 siblings and 4 step-sisters altogether and we're just now starting to get to know one another. So glad you came to this web site to meet your kin folk.
Name: The surname is derived from a number of placenames in Scotland which in turn were from the Brittonic word "coed" meaning "wood". The name appears in a number of locations in Scotland, the earliest being a Norman adventurer, Hervey Keith who married an heiress of the warrior Marbhachair. Hervey was granted the lands of "Keth" from King David I around 1150. His son became Marischal (in charge of the horses) of the King of Scots. Sir Robert de Keth led the Scots cavalry at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 but died later at the Battle of Durham in 1346. The Keiths were made Hereditary Great Marischal by Robert the Bruce, a rank they held until 1715.
