I'm so lucky I started this journey when I did, while my parents and parents in law's generation are still here, because those memories are worth bottling. Sadly now both my Mum and my Dad are gone, but Mum's passing has given me a reconnection with her cousins and more, which is wonderful.
I've learned that my husband's family in Western Australia dates from the very earliest years of the colony - these are the SHAW's, LOGUE's and BROAD's. My father in law, Tom has a great memory for family going ons and has told us great stories and potted histories. Our family roots have led to some very interesting places. My Dad's family and my husband's lines are very intriguing and there have already been wonderful books written about some of them.
Between my husband and I, family lines come from Scotland, Ireland, and England. One really amazing discovery was that my LEASK and CORSTON family ancestors on my Mum's side were seafarers from the Shetland and Orkney Islands. They emigrated to South Australia in the early 1850s. Also, I think I've found a link in the OTTER family through an internet cousin. Thank you Margaret. I sincerely thank the family historians I've personally been in touch with and who've been so very generous. You are wonderful people.
I first got interested in genealogy a few years ago, when my Mum and I had conversations about her family. I knew very little then about my Poppa, and nothing about the rest of his family so it was a huge surprise when Mum said that he'd come with his family to Western Australia when he was about ten, from Wales. Since then we've had many talks about those fascinating times, and each time I'd go away and uncover something else, which in turn snowballed with more memories.

The latest EVERITT information is the result of a collaboration with my friend and internet cousin, Jo from the UK. Jo's 5x great grandmother Catherine Wadsley born Aug 1798 is 1st cousin 2x removed to Phillip Albert E. Wadsley. Phillip is husband of Fanny Everitt 1858 (daughter of Ekin Everitt). We've been corresponding and sharing information and leads since July 2008, and continue to do so, so my sincere thanks for the huge amount you've contributed Jo.
JANUARY 2008 By accident or maybe that should be serendipity, I came across information about the CARMICHAEL family in a book "A Global Clan: Scottish Migrant Networks and Identities Since the Eighteenth Century" Editor: Angela McCarthy, in a chapter written by Professor Ian Richards of Flinders University, South Australia. They were one branch of the family I'd struggled to find much about. I have since been very lucky to receive, courtesy of the History Faculty of Flinders University, copies of many of the letters written in the nineteenth century, by Mr Andrew CARMICHAEL, which were published in the Fifeshire Advertiser, his hometown newspaper in Scotland. They give a detailed account of life in South Australia during the period of Andrew's correspondence.
