OUR INTRODUCTION WITH A BLESSED GREETINGS TO YOU,

ACTS 17:26 says: “And from one blood HE made the whole world of humanity to be dwelling on the whole surface of the Earth..” (Sources: King James Version; Aramaic English Bible; American King James; Webster Bible Translation; Jubilee Bible 2000, & others). Before undertaking this initiative, we knew about so-so many people from Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and other parts of the Eastern United States going back to the mid-1800s. Sometimes events in life spur questions about family history and ethnic heritage that may be difficult to answer - - ACCURATELY, SUFFICIENTLY, and TRUTHFULLY. Reflecting on thoughts by Thich Nhat Hanh (a Vietnamese Monk); "If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people."These thoughts got our minds to wonder: "What is it we do not know about ourselves?" Who were these people that contributed to the formulation of my DNA?"
"You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them.” (Bishop Desmond Tutu)
Like many families, we got answers to most of our questions and other family information from our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and all of the local ancestral storytellers in our communities. The focus was on known family lines. Further pursuits would expose tangled roots with many other family trees. And of course, we heard the paralyzing phrase "there are some things we don't want to talk about." These revelations caused our research efforts to grow well beyond the "so-so many" people we thought we knew to awaken us to a multi-cultural and cross-ethnic heritage that includes Native American, European, African, and Asian ancestors. This "melting pot" realization then took us on an amazing journey of discovering relatives in our family trees and roots.
"The kind of ancestors we have had is not as important as the kind of descendants our ancestors have.” (Edgar Watson Howe)
On this website, you will find our ancestors and their descendants. Some were here on this land in the beginning. Others came later. For a few, we were able to trace roots before the 1500s when many family lines transverse the Sandhills Region and other parts of the American Colonies many years before the American Revolution and the creation of the United States.
"Other things may change us, but we start and end with family." (Anthony Brandt)
In availing the family trees, we used information from exceptionally reliable, credible, and respectable sources. We reviewed more than 200,000 relevant sources to validate our findings and connect the dots from the U.S. Census, state census, county records, birth certificates, death certificates, Quaker Meeting Minutes, family bibles, collaboration with other researchers, books, newspapers, Facebook, the Internet, and other public sources. We also used publicly available information from other countries. After folding and blending all of the information collected, there's a chance some of the informational data may contain an error or mistake. Or, certain information may not be 100% correct or right. If you find any information that is wrong, or it does not make any sense, let the Administrator know about it.
“Genealogy without documentation is mythology.”
The U.S. Census was and is a major source of information used in this project. The last year of the released U.S. Census Data was 1950. The data from 1950 has not been completely uploaded and updated here, so a family lineage may not include members born after 1940. If you want to show any missing members for a more current and complete family line, please provide the missing family member information. With family members pruning and sprucing up their branches, this website will have fewer errors. In addition to the conventional research approach above, many family members engaged in some science by taking DNA tests. On average, the test results identified about 1,000 DNA inter-related relatives for each participant. We were able to further validate using the "GEDmatch.com" database other relatives who independently participated in separately administered DNA tests with other service providers. Using this approach has allowed us to find many unknown and missing family links. To better understand how DNA is used in genealogy, it is suggested you view the recommended videos provided in the "Referenced Video Information on Genealogy & DNA "under the "Useful Links".
“Every king spring from a race of slaves, and every slave had kings among its ancestors," (Plato)
With reference to Plato's comment above, 23&ME scientific DNA genetic research disclosed the administrator and his direct male ancestors "SHARE ANCIENT PATERNAL LINEAGE WITH PHARAOH RAMESSES III". According to the 23&ME scientist, "E-M180 is relatively uncommon among 23&ME customers." The administrator "shares haplogroup with all the paternal-line descendants of the common ancestor of E-M180 paternal line stems dominated south of the Sahara. The haplogroup originated about 17,000 years ago in the pockets of western Africa that were habitable at the time, It was said that 1 in 2,700; 23&ME customers share the administrator paternal haplogroup assignment." In addition, National Geographic’s Geno 2 project traced the lineage to King Tut. FamilyTreeDNA had the same results as 23&ME, thus confirming the E-M180 haplogroup assignment. The scientist said, "Ramesses III's paternal lineage belongs to haplogroup E-V38", from which the administrator line also stems. The administrator and "Ramesses III share an ancient paternal-line ancestor who probably lived in North Africa or Western Asia".
"It's not what we inherit from our forefathers but what we leave for our children."(Anthony Brandt)

Getting Around The Sandhills Genealogical Society Family Trees

ADDING, UPDATING OR EDITING RECORDS.

FAMILY MEMBERS, PLEASE READ--IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. BE ADVISED: You must do your own research. You know your family members better than any of us.
(We can only assist you.)
When editing or adding new information, you must be able to connect to a person already in the database. Until future notice, email your photos and your new updated family information directly to the administrator. Please follow these instructions. If you are adding a new family group, it is strongly recommended you provide enough data for two (2) generations. You MUST provide full names (AKA's-if known), the name of places lived (state and/or county), and dates for birth and death (if expired). Your best guess will do - - we use "ABT" (about) or "EST" (estimate) to indicate the entries are not exact. YOU MUST provide names with all photos. If you need help or additional guidance, contact the Administrator. Due to the size of the database, any record of a person missing this required information, or a "stray" record entry WILL BE DELETED. For additional information on editing click the "Edit" button and then "Help."

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND.

When you search the database, a few individuals may appear to have no connection and you may wonder--why are they shown? You can trust in the fact we found a connection, and someone "knew" someone around that time. Our main goal is to show your branch on the family tree traced as far as possible down to its "roots". Here you will find the living and deceased family members together. In some instances, you will find there are several people with the same name that lived around the same time. This was due in part to the "pass-down" naming convention used early in our family history. Our ancestors kept the names of their parents and siblings in the family by naming newborn children after them. So, when searching for someone it is a good idea to have a date when that person was probably born (we used a date range of + or - 5 years in most cases). If you find the information shown is not totally right, or just plain wrong, or a living person is listed as dead, let the Administrator know what is wrong.

HOW TO BROWSE THE DATABASE.

After you sign into the website, there are several ways to browse. Clicking the Tree button under the View Tab graphically shows the relationship of a selected person to their kin. Clicking the Family Button under View tab shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above the selected person is the father and mother and below are the children. Clicking the Ancestor Chart under the People Tab shows the person you have selected on the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Clicking the Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Want to know how you are related to anybody? Click on the Relationships tool. Do you know who your second cousins are? Find out by clicking the Kinship Relationships Tool. Click on Reports to see Ancestors or Descendants Reports from 4 up to 7 generations. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar and generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. Click on Printable to see beautifully designed charts in PDF plus other formats. In addition to the charts and reports, we have Photo Albums, an Events list, and the Relationships tool. Family photographs can be organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs can be accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Family groups should create a NEW photo album for its family members. (You must not place any pictures in the Default or Main Album - that album is for the website Administrator's use - ONLY.) You can keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries on the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. In browsing this website if you find any areas needing improvement please tell us.

Call-out to Family Members

Way Forward & Future Plans

If you have a story you would like to share about your family lineage--write it up and contact the Administrator. However, before you send anything to make sure you do your research to verify and confirm the information you have (please include complete names, dates, and places). Keep in mind most information can be confirmed or verified against public records and other sources. You should know, we routinely interface files and information with other genealogical search engines. Using this process, the site will continue to be a work in progress in connecting our ancestors to their descendants of today. We have plans to publish our first edition in hard print and are in the process of collecting photos. If you have any photos you want to submit; please name tag each individual, date it, and tell us where it was taken--if you can. A Blog link will be provided soon.
