About WOOD AND MY STAFFORDSHIRE MOORLANDS ANCESTORS
Over many years of research with my late mother and aunt we have traced our ancestors back to the sixteen hundreds, which cover many different surnames, some with various spellings which cover

Heath, Mea(y)kin, Broster, Harrison, Dudley, Reade whose pedigree was published in 1906 by Aleyn Lyell Reade genealogist. Pilsbury, and Yardley the ancestors of Hannah Heath all of Horton married John Wood born Horton married Astbury Cheshire, whose children were born in Horton and Gratton. This inludes one my great great grandmothers Elizabeth Wood born the 5th June 1848.

Elizabeth had two sons born out of wedlock Ralph Wood born 1876 and my great grandfather Samuel Wood born December 1877. They were brought up within the family. Also according to the 1891 and 1901 census Elizabeth also had a daughter Harriet and a third son William Arthur.

Samuel Wood my great grandfather married Susannah Sweetmore from Bluehills, part of Staffordshire Roaches or Roches descended from Bowyer, Walker and Pickford.

Also in the family tree are two poets George Heath of Horton and Noah Heath of Sneyd Green.

He is aware that the fondness and over-partiality of friends, are, under these circumstances, too often a “glare”
“That leads to bewilder; and dazzles to blind.”
At the same time he does not affect to deny that the solicitsations of friends have had some influence with him in his present undertaking: for who is proof against the opinions of others, when those opinions are favourable to himself’! The principal reason why he again comes before the public and on which he grounds his hope of success, is the flattering reception which his first volume of Miscellaneous Poems met with, published a few years ago.
Of the poetic merit of the following little pieces it would ill become the Author to speak. He may just however that
