About The Fritz & Merritt Family et al
Thanks to everyone who has added to this website with facts and/or photos.

I am trying to nail down if the John L. Fritz that died in the OR asylum in 1915 is the son of Jacob Fritz. I can't find him for certain in any census after the 1900 in Heppner OR. I think he was the man boarding with the Leezer family in 1900 and a volunteer genealogist is working in Oregon to find records tying him to our Fritz family. She suggested military draft cards of his brothers and Charles V. Fritz is tall and slender like John is described in 1906 when admitted to the asylum after being arrested. UPDATE: I found out this past summer that his sister, Mary Agnes, spent 2 yrs in an OR asylum where she died in 1951. When she was admitted there, she and her brother Charles both said no one in the family had been admitted to an asylum before her. I have dropped my request for John Fritz ashes in OR for now.

I am also looking for the marriage certificate of Peter Dukelow and Minerva Mason in Feb. 1878. She was living in Webster, NY and then Rochester before their marriage, but so far I haven't had luck in finding a church record online for them. If you have any suggestions besides familysearch or ancestry.com let me know! I am hoping a record will give his parents' names as I don't know who his father was and he was born in Ireland.

I am trying to track down Guiseppina Basile (Josephine) brothers and sisters and will be adding census records I've recently found thanks to obits for two of her siblings.

I've also been looking into the brother Basile that Teresa said she was going to stay with in Avon, NY when she got off the boat from Sicily in 1906. She was married by that time and which brother was in NYS already? Salvatore, Giuseppe, Giusto or Antonino (I don't think it was the last one as he was born about 1890, but who knows)

Merritt Men Family Tree is on ancestry.com. I also started a tree at Familysearch.org for the Kregal/Fritz side of the Family. Both places come up with documentation hints and I hope to find some names/connections farther back by doing this.

If you copy a PHOTO I have on my webpage of your ancestor and put it on another website, like ancestry.com, please say that the photo came from www.fritzmerritt.tribalpages.com.

Check out the calendar when you log in as it shows people's birthdays and anniversaries.

I do have source material in my files to back up 95% of the information I post here myself. I'm happy to share my documentation. If you ever want me to scan a birth, marriage or death certificate, just email me.

As I get farther back in the family history sometimes I worry that the person named in a document over 100 years ago isn't the one related to us. Names are a lot more common than I first thought. Please let me know if you notice something blatantly wrong, because as much as I try to line up all the facts, I still may overlook something that is right in front of my eyes. I've had questions myself about John T. Merritt military records and Henry Hankey and how he fits into my family tree after he was mentioned in my 4x great grandfather's Will in 1863. Have I been following the correct men?

Thank you to any of you who have added your family's information. I love to see the number of people in our family grow. If you have any problems uploading info, don't hesitate to contact me.

Also, if any of you have family photos or birth, marriage or death certificates you want to upload, please go ahead. If you don't know how to do that and want to mail me good quality copies or email them to me, I will do the work for you. In August of 2018 I sent away for 3 death certificates from NYSDOH and I have yet to get them as their backlog is tremendous. So, if you have death, baptism, marriage certificates for someone here and are willing to share them, please upload them here. If you run into problems, please contact me and I will help.

There is an inherited blood-clotting disorder, which appears to be related to the WEIGEL gene pool. The disorder is called "FVL Factor V Leiden" and has the potential to be deadly when not known about. One of my cousins discovered 13 years ago he has it when he had a blood clot. He now takes blood thinner to discourage clots from forming. I tested negative. Please, take a little time to research "FVL Factor V Leiden", and ask your family physician to be tested for it, particularly if you've ever developed unexplained blood clots. Or, at the very least, keep the name of this inheritable disorder in mind if you develop a blood clot in the future. It may save your life to know about this disorder and be able to share it with your doctor(s).

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
