About Shrum/ Dishroon/ Almany/ Sanders/ Gipson
If you have family you'd like to add, you should be able to add anyone in your direct line. If you have knowledge of other lines, I would be grateful for the information and would be glad to add it.

The central families in these lines are the ancestors & descendants of Sebron & Pearl Haynes Disheroon, Joe David & Bessie Almany Shrum, William H. & Laura Armstrong Sanders, and George & Eleanor Gipson. Families having links by marriage, Yokley, Graham, Layne, Nunley & Roberts are included, where the information has been available. For generations, these families have resided in Grundy, Marion, and Franklin counties of Tennessee.

This website is a work in progress. The research contained herein is a result of untold hours by dedicated genealogists, professional and amateur. We humbly thank all who have actively contributed to this project, and who have made their findings available. Since I am not a professional genealogist, I do not vouch for the 'absolute' accuracy of all the information included here. Much of the data is a combination of family trees currently, or previously available online. Where possible, I have attempted to use trees that have documented sources, and include the citations. We welcome corrections and additional contributions. We are particularly interested in first-hand information, and family oral history is always interesting. Please contact the webmaster to contribute to the site.

DISHROON -

Disharoon has been traced back to Michaell Disharoone, an immigrant from Guernsey of the Channel Islands near Normandy, France. (A transcribed copy of his last will and testament is included) "Disharoon", "Disheroon", and "Dishroon" are the more recent spellings of the name. For Haynes, we have the father of Perry, Ephraim Madison, born in 1819, in North Carolina. There is a photo of the Perry Haynes family in the "Help us Identify" folder. If you have any information on this photo, please contact the webmaster.

SHRUM - Check the Media menu for the Shrum Books, under "Files".

The Shrum lineage has been traced back to Germany in the early 1600s through Johann 'Schramm' who came to the colonies, arriving in Philadelphia in 1738 aboard the ship DAVY. From there the family moved to York, Pennsylvania. Gradually, they made their way into Virginia, then to Lincoln County, North Carolina, and on to the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee. Some moved on to Missouri and even the Oregon Territory, via the Oregon Trail wagon trains. Over the centuries the Shrum name has taken many forms including "Schram", "Schrum", "Srom", and "Srum". To the "Tennessee" Shrums, we have connected with some of the Shrum lines that moved early to Missouri area. You can connect on their facebook page, "Shrum Cousins (Family)" & "Shrum Heritage and Family".

SANDERS -

The Sanders lineage goes to 1500's England, running through Plymouth Colony, via the Mayflower(George Soule), and the Ayers family coming to America from Suffolk, England. More recently, John
Russell Sanders, one of 11 sons of Thomas and Mary(Polly)Sanders, fought in the Civil War. He
was Superintendent of Sunday School at Clouse Hill U. Methodist church for 25 years. Harris Goodman(unknown if he is related), told Helen (Sanders)McKaig when she was a small girl, that
John R Sanders saved his life during the battle of Moccasin Bend. John swam the Tennessee River
with wounded Harris Goodman on his back. More on John's Civil War experience can be found
under the Sources links above. Also, see "Stories" under People, above for a general overview of
the Will Sanders Family lineage.

GIPSON -

Allen Gipson was the key benefactor for the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. His generous contribution of land provided the location for the University.

ROBERTS -

A link to Pilgrim George Soule has now been established through Nancy Elizabeth Payne, Grandmother of Randall Roberts. And, there is a Connection to the Sanders Family through this same ancestor.

CHARLEMAGNE & CHARLES "The Crusader"

Recently, through the McConnaughey family, we found research has been completed linking back to nobility in France, Germany & Norway(Nobles kept very good records of death and burial.) The limitations of this website allow a limited number of generations-about 12 less than it takes to show one family line back to Charlemagne. So there are 2 family lines set up to show this: One to Charles The Crusader, and a second one to Charlemagne, for whom Charles is a direct descendant. This line has supposedly been traced back to Noah. I have the lineage on paper but do not have all the support needed to show a family line with documentation. It's hard to imagine documentation exists for such.

Keep in mind, as you view this site as a family member, you may not see those in other lines who are living. This is to protect their privacy and is standard practice.
