About Sproat-McMurdo/Young Family Tree
Please sign in to see more.
This is my family tree and I am very proud of my scottish roots which spring from both sides of the family. It has been quite a journey back in time with some pleasant surprises - and some unpleasant - but all part of my past.
All the information on this site has been verified by documentation - births, marriages, deaths, testaments, wills and census returns have been downloaded from Scotland's people which has been an invaluable source. Shipping documents have been downloaded from Find my Past. Information regarding later generations has been supplied by immediate family members. James Worthington Aitken Young kindly supplied copies of legal documents with regard to the Young family together with other family records. The 1911 census for England has verified much of this information. Trips to the libraries at Dumfries and Glasgow have turned up other information - including a look at the daily log kept by the school teacher at Templand School in which there are several mentions the 'children from Shaw Cottages'. Parochial records have given an insight into the whys and wherefores of illegitimate births. Along the way there has been contact with both close and extended family members who were unknown until this tree started to grow. It is my hope that future generations will continue to add to it and will feel the same pride in their roots as I do in mine.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
