Welcome to Gilmour Atkins website, which has been set up to provide information of
interest to family members about our ancestors and their descendents.
In due course, this site can be a repository of historical information and a more
extensive range of items of interest about our ancestors, or for that matter living
family members. So any further information, photographs, news paper clippings,
articles and other documents that are suitable for publication on the site are very
welcome. These should be provided in either PDF or JPEG format, so that files can
be loaded directly onto the web site. Please provide identification for individuals
in photographs, and as much background information as possible about items of
interest.
Extent of information
Where possible, the family lines have been tracked back to the person who arrived in
Australia. As far as possible, information has been cited back to an historical
record e.g. Certificates of births, deaths, marriages, etc. Further information is
needed about the ancestors who lived in the United Kingdom and Ireland, so if you are
travelling that way and have the time, some local research could add to
our information database.
The only lineage that I could not reliably link to an overseas family is the Atkins
family. The first reliable information for this family line is Benjamin Atkins who
was reported as being born in 1810 in Dorset. He apparently moved from Melbourne to
Adelaide in 1844, which is the start of my citable information.
Thanks
Thanks to every family member who has contributed to the research for this family
tree. A particular thanks to Alison Byrnes and Trevor Byrnes for their detailed information about
the Byrnes family and photographs.
Thanks to Dana Burnett for assistance with the construction and maintenance of this
website.
Privacy
The site has been set up with access only by user name and password to ensure that
the commonly known family information remains with family members. Information about
living family members will only be visible to people with sign-in access.
