This site's central reference point is David Goldberg's four grandparents - [paternal] Bessie Margolis and Abraham Goldberg and [maternal] Isaac Cohen and Regina Blumenthal. The "Glasgow Goldbergs" begin with the arrival, from Dublin, in 1907/8 (?), of Bessie and Abraham
with eldest son Ephraim (b.Dublin 1907). Abraham married Bessie (an orphan from 8yo; she lived in Dublin with brother and sister-in-law) in 1905 in Dublin. Abraham founded a business in Glasgow, to be known as "A.Goldberg and Sons Ltd" selling everything
for the home, including groceries and clothes. An ardent Zionist, Abraham purchased land in 1930´s
Yishuv; founded a citrus processing company in 1937, Citrus Food Products/Pri-Peri as well as other institutions in Rehovot. He moved there in 1945 for two years. The first Glasgow home was in
55 Main Street, Gorbals. Other children were born: Melach (Michael); Ray; Sadie; Milly and Leslie. Sadie and Milly die, coincidentally, both at 7 months old. Ray (m. Frederic Landau; one daugther, Anna)and Leslie (m Sheila Joy Barnet; no issue) settled in London. In Ireland, Abraham
parted company with his brother, Louis, who travelled to USA/NJ. From Chiz Goldberg's autobiography, we learn that there also three sisters: Molly, Sarah and Lena who have also settled
in the USA. Isaac Goldberg (Abraham's father)arrives in NYC in 1921 and dies there in 1932. Melach
(he officially registered as "Michael" in 1971) is introduced to (I)Rene Cohen in London (by his
sister Ray) and they marry in London in 1942. Their first marital home is in Dumbarton, Michael
serving during WW2 at RAOC Bonhill (apart from a 6 week stint in Norway in 1945). Rene's parents
are Isaac Cohen, who's mother is Malkah Rokach, was born in Petach-Tikvah and Regina Gittel Blumenthal, born in Riga. Rene has one brother, Vivian, who changes his name to "Craig" in 1953.
Michael and Rene have two children, Judith (Judy) and David. Michael's brother Ephraim (with whom he eventually runs A.G and S) marries Clarisse Schamisso (Antwerp); they have three children, Myra, Mark and Marion.
