Remember:
When a parent or a grandparent dies, no matter their age, it is never easy to accept their loss. All generations are a special part of the family tree. They provide a link with our past, and with the past of our parents, our uncles and aunts, and our grandparents – people we may never have known. They represent the history and survival of our family, and provide a feeling of permanence in a changing world.
Remember:
WE SHALL HAVE NO TOMORROW WORTH HAVING WITHOUT A YESTERDAY WORTH REMEMBERING.
RESOLVE TO BE TENDER WITH THE YOUNG, COMPASSIONATE WITH THE AGED, SYMPATHETIC WITH THE STRIVING AND TOLERANT WITH THE WEAK AND WRONG. SOMETIME IN LIFE YOU WILL HAVE BEEN ALL OF THESE.
"WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND OUR FUTURE IF WE DON’T TAKE CARE OF OUR PAST."
To quote Marcus Tullius Cicero 106-43 B.C.
"NOT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE WE WERE BORN IS TO REMAIN PERPETUALLY A CHILD. FOR WHAT IS THE WORTH OF A HUMAN LIFE UNLESS IT IS WOVEN INTO THE LIFE OF OUR ANCESTORS BY THE RECORDS OF HISTORY".
To quote Geoff Hambleton (a contact through Tribalpages)
" A TREE WITHOUT ROOTS IS JUST A PIECE OF WOOD"
To quote Benjamin Franklin from his biography,
"I have ever had pleasure in obtaining any little anecdotes of my ancestors....."
To quote Wendell Barry
"UNLESS YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE, YOU DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE".
To quote Alex Haley.
"In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we came from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness.”
To quote Henry James
"There are three things that are important in human life. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. The third is to be kind."
From my cousin David Pugh-Clarke
"Lernen ist wie Rudern gegen den Strom,
Hört man damit auf, treibt man zurück."
[Lao Tse, chin. Philosoph, 4 Jhd. v. Chr.]
Translated:
LEARNING IS LIKE ROWING AGAINST THE CURRENT, YOU STOP THAT, YOU DRIFT BACK.
