About Hatcher & Wills Family Tree
Please sign in to see more. I have researched as far back as I can on the Hatcher Family and the Wills Family (my grandparents, Vinson & Ludie (Wills) Hatcher).
Clyde Douglas Hatcher supplied information on our immediate family with a Hatcher Family History booklet he put together in the early 1990's, giving some history on our fathers' parents and siblings.
There is a lot of Hatcher history in Virginia, and later in West Virginia when the state was formed from Virginia. There is an Inn called "The Halfway Inn" that was built by one of our ancestors and is still in operation today. This inn was frequented by General George Washington, U.S. President. There is a cemetery a few blocks from the inn that is full of our Hatcher ancestors as well, aptly named The Hatcher Cemetery. Not far from those locations is Hatcher Island, on the James River.
In 1680 William Hatcher built a plantation in Henrico County, Virginia, and named it Varina Plantation. It still stands today on the banks of the Appomattox River. It was once the home of Pocohontas and her husband, John Rolff. There is a picture of it in the PHOTOS.
Our Ancestors come from England. If you go to the oldest ancestor, Henry Hatcher, and work forward, you will see just how many generations of Hatcher's lived in England before coming to the United States.
Newport News, Virginia is named for our ancestor, Christopher Newport. He is my 10x great- grandfather. There is also a University in Newport News named for him. See more about Christopher Newport under STORIES.
Our heritage is also linked to Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales.
Please feel free to send photos to be uploaded to the site. The more, the merrier.
If you have any additional information on your family, or see something that needs to be corrected, please let me know. You can send a request through here or notify me on The Hatcher Group on Facebook.
I have not had a proof-reader on this site, so please, if you see an error let me know!
If you see "FIND A GRAVE MEMORIAL #" or "FAG #" in the notes field, that number can be used to find their gravesite and pictures on the FIND A GRAVE website.
Best regards,
