The first Earthship built in Alberta was built by our Kinney cousins on the Olmstead line. Here is a link to the story of how they built it:

October 26, 2008:
I have added the memoir written by James McKean, dated March 15th, 1843, in bits and phrases to each individual. This memoir was likely written especially for his son, George Adair McKean, who emigrated to the New World about this time, with his family, not knowing if they would see them again. The McKean, Rudd, Adair and Bragg families are on the McLeish side. If anyone would like a copy I can email it to you.
Send me your photos and I will add them to the site. Feel free to email me if you have questions or have some info for me to add or change.
July 8, 2008, I added a link to some old folk songs, it's quite a list. You can listen to people singing the lyrics or choose to listen to the midi tune. It also has the words and variations of the songs. Enjoy.
WHAT IS AHNENTAFEL?

The website for Captain Jabez Olmsted of Ware, Massachusetts, site has changed. Check it out, there are tons of photos of our OLMSTEAD relatives and all the newsletters with a lot of stories are there to read. You can bookmark the Jabez to read it anytime. It's a great site and some of our relatives have done a lot of work and a tremendous job I might add!!!
June 21, 2007: Find Lillian Sephronia HELLEM LARSEN and read the submission by Karen (OLMSTEAD) LARSEN. I have added some info on Lillian's family, who immigrated from Norway and went to North Dakota, before coming to Canada.
Also see the link below, to the Captain Jabez Olmstead of Ware site, our earliest OLMSTEAD ancestor who was born in Massachusetts about 1690. More to add to this line.
And on the CROUCHILL side, back through the maternal line, there were stories of an old letter, a missing will and an inheritance and something to do with the Hudson Bay Company, and possibly being related to the explorer, Henry Hudson. More on this later and more names to add.
Previous note:
I am currently working on setting up this site in Tribal Pages. However I have worked on our Family History off and on over the last 35 years or more. There are many interesting and fascinating stories.
When I was young, in school, a friend showed me a page in our history textbook that said that Champlain's astrolabe was found on the shores of Lake Olmstead! Later I found out where our family came from and guess what, right from the shores of Lake Olmstead, in Renfrew County, Ontario. There are a few more lakes named Olmstead in other provinces too.
What really compelled me to begin the journey to find out more about our history, was an old document that was transcribed in the late 1800's, by Elizabeth McLeish, from an earlier document, which was given to my sister-in- law, (her namesake) by her grandmother, Lillie McLeish. The original author, James McKean, had the foresight to write down the names, dates and place names for several generations before him and also of his siblings and descendents. This line goes back to the early 1700's. I have work to do to tie it in to the correct generations, but it continues up the line from Anne Rudd McKean on the McLeish side.
Please sign the guestbook to let me know you were here for a visit. Contact me if you have any questions.
