Many thanks to all the various family members I've talked to, including Sara Carmen (Moreno) Copeland, who did a college project which included talking to our grandmother, Rachel "Alice" (Smoyer) Hemmeter, in the 1980's in which she gathered alot of family information on the Smoyer/Hemmeter side of the family as well as the Moreno side. This site is a work in progress and I will make updates as I become aware of additional information/corrections. - I've used maiden names to identify women in the tree. - If there is information missing on anyone, it's because I didn't know the information and did not find it. - I apologize for any typos or grammatical errors - I'm sure there are plenty! - Name spellings have sometimes changed throughout the years. I've tried to use what the actual person would have used for that time period, the most common spelling, or what is shown on documents (ie census, birth, death and marriage certificates). - I've included blurbs about certain people from my memory of what our grandmother talked about or from our mother, Katherine Edith (Hemmeter) Moreno. - I've also had contact with extended cousins (in particular Jackie Reinhard and John Franklin Smoyer IV) who are also working on their family trees. They graciously provided several photos of ancestors/family in common as well as a few stories. - I've used mainly ancestry.com, findagrave.com, and The Latter Day Saints website; familysearch.org in my search for further information. On findagrave.com I've set up a virtual cemetery. You can find that cemetery by going to www.findagrave.com. Search our fathers' name: Jose P Moreno in California, select him, and at the bottom of his page click on my name, Mona Williamson, which will take you to my page. Select the link titled "2 virtual cemeteries", then select "Moreno/Hemmeter". This will take you to a list of the people in the virtual cemetery and you can view them separately from there. I've included some historical information in the Stories section of this site/DVD as well as some website information for further information on certain places and events.
