About The Ehman(n) Relationships of Holdfast and District
Welcome to The family history of the Ehman(n)s and F(V)olks of Holdfast and its surrounding districts. Our hope is that you will find the site both interesting and informative.

While all families mentioned on this site have at least some tenuous connection to these two families, many individuals with connections to the villages of Bethune, Chamberlain, Craik, Davidson, Dilke, Findlater, Liberty, Penzance, and even farther afield many find this site of at least passing interest.

I myself am not a professional -- or even amateur researcher. The data presented on this site has been garnered from the following sources:

The Joseph Ehmann Family Tree (1823 - 1968) by Rev. Daniel Ehman, C.S.S.R. -- I most definitely acknowledge those he accredits on page 17.

Professor William Ehmann, University of Kentucky, and Genealogist Richard H. B. Carruthers-Zurowski, who have independently researched and thus confirmed the information preceding that recorded in Rev. Daniel Ehman's publication. As a result of the work done by these esteemed gentlemen, I am confident we can reasonably hold the Ehman(n) lineage to be accurate.

The F(V)olk lineage prior to Anton F(V)olk / Helena Fettig (Fattig) is another matter entirely. Nothing prior to them should be taken as a settled matter. Anything prior to the Volk Family History compiled by Rose Folk which begins with the above named Anton, should definitely be considered with skepticism, perhaps a lot of skepticism. I feel the information is accurate, but at present the link between them is tenuous at best. Having said that, I acknowledge Greg Volk, Minnesota, USA, for Folk (Volk) history preceding that compiled by Rose - as well as Harvey Eberle for passing it along to me. Special credit to Barbara Bauer for the possible (the best I have at present) resolution of the conflict in merging the data provided by Rose and Greg.

Pius D. Waldman, Kansas, USA for Bitz history preceding Bernhard Bitz (c 1845 - c 1901).

Holdfast - History and Heritage - Volume 1 Published 1980, Volume 2 Published 2005 (History of Holdfast & District)

Published Histories of the following Saskatchewan, Canada communities:

Aylesbury, Bethune, Chamberlain, Craik, Davidson, Dilke, Fox Valley/Liebenthal, Kendal, Liberty and Penzance.

Historical Sketch of St. Peters Parish and the Founding of the Colonies of Rastadt, Katharinental and Speyer (1930) by Father H. Metzger. History of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church - Holdfast, Saskatchewan, Canada -- (1906 - 1966) on the occasion of its Diamond Jubilee. History of St. Martin's R. C. Parish - Billimun, Sask., Canada -- c. 1994.

Obituaries posted in various newpapers -- particularly the Leader Post (Regina).

Updates (births, deaths, marriages, anniversaries, etc.) to various families posted in the Craik Weekly News

Information volunteered by individuals in various chance meetings (generally updates of their particular branch of the relationship).

A small amount has been obtained from various internet sites. This information - and for that matter, any of the above data should be taken with a grain of salt as it has not been properly documented and cross-referenced. However, that being said, over the last few years I have not yet had any reason to question the authenticity of this data in any manner.

If you are a member of the site, you may update your personal family information. Any other information can be e-mailed to me. I will make the changes, or corrections, and include them in the next upload.

NOTE -- Please pass word of this site on to anyone that would be a legitimate visitor.

HOWEVER -- we have all heard (perhaps experienced) stories of identity theft. As a result of this problem, this site is password protected. While it is true that this information can be garnered from many other sources, there is no point making it any easier for those that would create a problem for any one of us. As a present participant of the site, I ask that you also be cautious about sharing the password. On the other hand, I DO want as many legitimate visitors as possible -- they are the best and most accurate sources of the information needed to update and/or correct the many branches that are in dire need of updating. I implore you to get involved - and encourage others to do so as well. It would be great gift to our descendants to know who their grandparents and great grandparents etc. were - a shame to let their names drift into the mists of time to be forgotten forever.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
