About  Hopley-Ellis Family - Australia
Please sign in to see more.
This tree is currently a work in progress and as such there are likely to be errors and omissions. I would be happy to hear from anyone who shares common ancestors or believes there to be a mistake.

The tree includes direct ancestors and some only related by marriage. Many ancestors are shown as having only one child: the one from whom our family is descended. Further siblings will be added as time permits. Direct ancestors of the Ellis/Hopley families have their names marked with an aqua square.

Information about people in the tree has been obtained from various sources including living family members, genealogy databases and indexes and other relevant family trees. As most records are transcribed from handwritten sources, errors and mispellings can occur. Last names also change over generations. In this tree I have chosen to use the most recent or common form of name eg Smalley, rather than Smally or Smaley as recorded on documents for ancestors of this branch of the family.

Copies of documents attached to individual records include birth, marriage and death details, census information and details from shipping records. Only documents that have been extracted from original sources have been included. These sources include Victorian government departments; parish indexes for Cornwall, Lancashire and Warwickshire; United Kingdom birth, marriage and death indexes; and England and Wales Census records. Records extracted from government and parish indexes and made available through the FamilySearch International Genealogical Index (IGI) and FamilySearch Record service have also been included. Where possible and as time permits, links to records will be placed in the Sources section of the tree.

Links to websites providing information and maps on the various places our ancestors came from are listed below. To return to this page after visiting another website, go to File and choose Close Tab.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
