About The Taylors & Hutchisons of Tarana
Please sign in to see more.
The data in this site is part of a much larger collection of the TAYLOR family of Tarana in NSW, and was started in the 1980's by Elizabeth Hook (AKA Beth Taylor) and Richard Wallace. The key people in this collection are William Taylor (1833-1919) and Ann Hutchison (1833-1876) who were married at Bathurst NSW in 1852. William, born in Cornwall, was the son of Edward Taylor and Martha Rowe who arrived in NSW in 1839 on the "Roxborough Castle". Ann was the daughter of George Hutchison, a convict serving 7 years transportation who arrived in NSW on board the "Mistral" in 1825. Her mother, Ellen, was the daughter of Robert Maxwell who accompanied Governor Macquarie's 73rd Regiment of Foot in 1812. A good beginning you may think but Robert fell foul of the law he was sent to uphold and managed to get himself a public flogging in Sydney as punishment for burglary. Perhaps in was Ellen's own background which made her amenable to marriage with the former convict, George.

As time permits, we will add additional information and photographs to the people represented on this site. The Taylor family, in a considerably larger and more comprehensive database will be loaded once we get the hang of using this product. The idea was to start small and iron out the kinks before we went bigger.

The use of the surnames Hutchison & Hutchinson has caused no end of angst when trying to locate descendants of George & Ellen. The name Hutchinson has been recorded in this database only where the use of that particular spelling appears to have been consistent throughout time. Notwithstanding, in the recording of data from birth, death & marriage certificates, and from obituaries and death notices, the spelling is recorded exactly as it appears.

There may be information you have which you would like to share, or suggestions to make about the data already loaded. If this is the case, please send us an email.
