About The Bregstein Breakstone Family Tree
The Bregshtain family originated in an area in and around Aukstoji Panemune, Lithuania, which is directly across the Neiman river from Kovno/Kaunas. In the U.S. are found various permutations of the name, including: BREGSTEIN, BREGSTONE, BRACKSTONE, BREKSTONE, BRECKSTEIN, BREKSTEIN, and BREAKSTONE.

This family tree was compiled over a period of fifty years by Rabbi Jeffrey A. Marx and Dr. Walter Benson Miller (1920-2004). It may be freely shared with family members providing that credit is given to the compilers for the work they have done.

Information about the Bregshtein family's shtetl of Panemune can be found on the Panemune website (see link, below). Information about the history of the family can be found on the Breakstone/Bregstein Family History website (see link, below).

While the Bregshtain name appears to be monogenetic (that is, everyone who bears that name originates from the same family) such is not the case with the Breakstone name that was adopted by some family members in the U.S. Family members of Aaron Petzuran, from Kopulli, Russia (near Minsk), for example, adopted the Breakstone name upon their arrival to the U.S. The Breakstone name was also in use by families from England.
