and connect people like pieces in a puzzle.
It is fascinating to look at old photos. The one's included in this site are mostly from Welland and Kenilworth. This tree has roots in Belitsa, Bulgaria Bitola Macedonia, Kerry County, Ireland, Schurheim Alsace, France and England.
The Wellington County Museum in Fergus has artifacts and records of much of the information in this site. I thank Larry Lyons for his original research and Marilyn Tone Gray who wrote the book "Now We are Many" which is a magnificent document tracing the lineage of the Brohman Family. A recent 2003 publication, "Faith and Foundations" by George Leo Kraemer is available for purchase from Gogol Press in Moncton. Ken Hanson has contributed photos from his trips to Maryhill and Kenilworth. More recently, Amazon.com has provided useful information.
Dr. Frank Lynes donated The Lynes Blacksmith Shop and all it's properties to the Township of Wellington North. In 2017 the Lynes Blacksmith Shop Committee was formed and work began in its restoration and several open houses have taken place. The COVID Pandemic has prevented recent public events.
Enjoy!
Note for Researchers:
Garafraxa (West) Twp. in historical WELLINGTON Co.
Opened in 1821.
Jesse E. Middleton, The Province of Ontario: a History: 1615-1927, published 1927 What remains of Garafraxa Twp. in Wellington Co. is only the western portion of the full township, the east portion having ceded to Dufferin Co. in 1879. The intact (original) Garafraxa Twp. had 25 Lots running northward with Concession 1 to 19,A,C running eastward. Garafraxa (West) is restricted to Concessions 1 to 8 (see early Patent Map). For our Transcription Projects, where early Directories and Maps have covered the township before the split, we have manually separated out records into East- and West- portions. Researchers are advised to check both.
