About The Craig Family Tree
First found in Aberdeenshire, where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D. Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: William Craig who settled in Charleston with his wife Mary and servants in 1803: F. Craigh arrived in New York in 1822 with his wife and four children.(from House of Names.Com Archive)
The original or main line of this family possessed the esate of Riccarton in Scotland. The land of the main line died in 1818(Richard Craig, of Riccarton) and the estate passes to one of the Gibson family who adopted the name of Craig. i.e. "Gibson Craig", and was created a Baronetin in 1831. A new coat of arms was granted to Baronet, this embracing the original arms as quartering. This modern arms has been mistakenly used by some lines of the family in America. The modern arms may be seen depicted in Burke's Peerage.

Craig(Gibson-Craig) Ricarton & Ingleston Co. Edinburgh. The firs Bart. so created in 1831 assumed the additional name of craig in virtue of the entail made by Robert Craig Esq. Of Ricarton in 1818.
