The Descendants of Justin Lambert https://justinlambert.tribalpages.com

In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story, and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe. [Thanks to cousin Linda Cook Trombley for sharing this.]

Research in genealogy also reminds us of the many unknown and unnamed who have gone before us: "Of others no memory remains, for when they perished, they perished, As if they had never lived, they and their children after them. (Ecclesiasticus or Sirach Chapter 44, verse 9). This poem speaks of them and of some I have been blessed to find:

Dear Ancestor
Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marble stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh and blood and bone
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so
I wonder how you lived and loved
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot
And come to visit you.

-Walter Butler Palmer

Family is like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions, but our roots remain as one. --- A family tree...there is strength in its roots and shelter in its branches. [Onknown authors]

The Descendants of Justin Lambert site is dedicated to the memory of Homer R Lambert and Lucienne (Laroche) Lambert. Homer's 100th birthday celebration by his descendants on the 4th of July weekend in 2008 at the Lambert homestead in Highgate Center, Vermont was the catalyst for setting up the site. Lucienne's notes and hand copied genealogies of the Laroche and Gagne families were the inspiration to post the geneologies, pictures, stories and anecdotes associated with the Lambert family and friends and neighbors. In 1995 Genealogist Geoff Robinson compiled the Lambert genealogy to Homer R. Lambert's generation for Raymond A Lambert, webmaster and administrator of the site. Maureen J. Chicoine, a Raymond descendant, has graciously provided information for the extensive Raymond genealogy. Sources will be listed as the site develops. Many family members have contributed pictures, information and corrections. This is a work in progress with many more pending additions If anyone finds errors or wishes to make contributions to the site, please contact me. I will exercise editorial
 oversight.

If it is true that we really die twice, once at our physical death and again when those who remembered us in the past forget us, then let's never forget. So this is one reason for this site: To remember names, days, successes and troubles of ancestors, relatives, and many of those connected to them, so that they can fly on the wings of time and live an endless life before we see them all in the next. Prayer for the 100th Birthday Memorial of Homer R Lambert by His Descendants

Saturday, July 5, 2008

Today, we give thanks for Homer Raymond Lambert, and we honor his life and cherish memories of him.

When we reminisce this weekend, we re-member or rejoin with each other. Our recollections may differ; however, sharing memories with loved ones brings us closer. Through both tears and laughter, we bond as family and friends.
We thank God for this gathering to bring us closer to friends and family and for the new memories we are creating. We are also grateful for the people who were once present in our lives and for those family members who are unable to be with us this weekend. Each one has touched our hearts in a special way and each one has left an indelible memory. We are thankful for all in this family who are or have been a part of our lives.

From Homer and Lucienne, we have learned to live, laugh, and love. We thank God for the experience of knowing each and every one in the Lambert family and for this opportunity to celebrate life with gratitude and honor.

"For God, whom I serve with my spirit by announcing the gospel of his Son, is my witness that without ceasing I remember you always in my prayers." -- Romans 1:9
