About Abigail's Ancestors

I first became interested in Family History in January 1999 when I decided to search for my great grandfather Eric Lionel Armstrong. Eric, who has fascinated me since I was a child, left his wife Lydia and eldest daughter, Ella, my grandmother, and went to live and work in Canada. Eric left Liverpool on 7th March 1912. Initially, he settled in Stellarton, Nova Scotia - a mining community. When his youngest daughter Amy was sent to join Eric in November 1912, he was living in Minto, New Brunswick. In 2006 I discovered that Amy, a spinster, died in 1983 in Victoria, British Colombia. After searching for Eric for over seven years - in 2007, I finally discovered, and spoke to, my Canadian Cousin Maureen who lives in Ontario. Many thanks to Heather from Sault Ste, Marie, Ontario, who made this possible and helped me to trace Maureen.

DNA results broke down two of my brick walls. The first one proved that Eric Armstrong was in fact Eli Gough and the second was to finally discover the family of William Abraham Newland. And finally after asking my father's sister, niece and nephew to take a DNA test, it proved that my father was not his father's son.

I would also like to express my sincere thanks to several distant cousins who have been kind enough to allow me to include their family photographs on this website. On my Dad's side of the family - Joseph Hinge, Norman Hinge, Eileen Cantrell, Derek Phillips and Colin Hobbs have all been extremely helpful and on my Mother's side Muriel Yeldon, Ann & Graham Yeldon, Roy Peacock and Gladys Church who were all equally very generous. Thank you.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
