About The Family of Colleen & Ken Dalton
The journey of developing this family tree has been an interesting one. Of course there have been frustrating days when nothing seems to be leading to an ancestor or family member. The search takes on a life of its own and the results are so rewarding.
I hesitate to name any one person that has assisted me in my research but will attempt to tell you some of my sources. Aunt Hazel published a book with information about the Myles, Pinkertons, and Nickerson. Uncle Keith had a network of friends and relatives that were able to help with the Lavallee branch. The MacIsaac, MacNeil and McAdam search led me to some of the most helpful people from Cape Breton and beyond. They have so much information and are so willing to share. Julie Heilman had facts about the Heilman side that I was missing.
Wermie, Wolfe, Nesnick and Thiele are branches of my mother's family. It was surprising to discover interesting facts about my grandfather Nicola Wermie. Sadly he died at the age of 33 of tuberculosis. Times must have been so difficult for his surviving family. The names in this branch have been anglosised and the search is slow but my friend Diane is amazing at discovering details that I missed.
The last family I am searching on my side is Cash or Kashk. My birth father's family is orginally from the Sault Ste Marie area in Ontario. Along with serveral of my cousins, I applied for my Indian Status. I was approved and am now a member of the Michapacotan Band from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
Ken Dalton, sounds like an Irish name. I think we have now proven that Ken is mostly French in his past. The Lavallee Family if now over 400 members strong in half of tree. Ken and I have spent hours in Sorel, Quebec and at least in a dozen cemeteries in Manitoba taking pictures of headstones. What a history!
The Daltons, Dunns, and Dohans keep me busy. A trip to Ireland was so much fun and beautiful but we didn't find as many ancestors as we had hoped.
I would not have been able to accomplish what I have without the help of my on-line friends. People that undertake genealogy are willing to share their findings and guidance. I may never have a chance to meet these wonderful people but I would like to extend a thank you for all those that spend hours at their computers search for their own ancestors and the ancestors of others.
I believe, who we are is based on where we came from. I want my children and grandchildren to know who their ancestors were. I hope they come to know their roots and can be proud of their heritage. Emma, Ethan, Lyric and River in part I undertook this task for you but in truth it was mostly for me.
Please take a minute and sign the guest book. It is my record of who has visited the site. I hope you will add to the tree by offering me information that I may not have. You can always e-mail me at kcdalton@shaw.ca.
