About Knight Family Tree

Welcome to The Knight Family Tree.

The Knight family traces back to the early 1800s and our research shows the origins of the Knights have always been Essex. Throughout the 1900s the family gradually spread all over the world with the earliest record of a Knight moving overseas being 1919 when Kate Knight married Percy Young and emigrated to New Zealand and since then further links have been established in Australia, USA, Canada & Hong Kong. Even though the Knight family has spread it's wings Essex still remains the home for many of the Knight family.

I believe the number of documents and photos located on this site makes it quite unique as, unlike other family history sites it isn't just a list of names. I have, where possible, included not only census returns but other documents to try a show to the best of my knowledge the information is correct. These documents include birth marriage and death certificates, military and employment records, school reports, baptism certificates and even DNA records. The documents have been indexed in a simple way to follow through the photographic section. For ease of viewing select "Photos" from the bar at the top of the site and then from the drop down menu select "Slideshow". Now from the album menu select the documents you want to view. By then selecting "Recent Additions" the documents will be displayed in date order.

Audio Recordings are now being linked to individual names. These Recordings include Alec Jeffreys on
Desert Island Discs, Jack England talking of his experiences when he suffered a stroke in 1976. Brian England talking about his love of 80s music on WTMD and Brian's daughter, Sandi, on the "Nuts & Bolts Show".

Further videos and audio recordings will be included once they become available. (Please note: Due to copywrite restrictions some video content may not be available in your country, if this is the case please let me know and I shall explore other video carrying websites)

Remember The Knight Family Tree is YOUR tree and entries, photos, comments and of course corrections are welcome, and before going please sign the guest book.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
