About Sober Families of PA.
The Sober family originated from West Europe, England,and Germany Living in England, the Sober family was a wealthy and respected family, active in the import/export business and were plantation owners in Barbados , they owned and used slaves in growing sugar cane and  distilling of Rum.
 The Sober and Soper names are still common last names in Barbados John Sober bought/inherited "The Mount Gilboa Plantation/Distillery"  from William Sandiford in 1747, and he renamed it "The Gay Rum Co" in honor of his best friend  Sir John Gay Alleyne.
 In 1807 Slave Trading was abolished in Barbados ending the use of slavery there. 
 John Sober and his son Cumberbatch Sober continued to operate the  plantation as absentee owners living in England. In 1860 the company was sold to the Thornhill family.  
 Some of the ancestors are still living there and some returned back  to England and some immigrated to the Philadelphia/New Jersy area,  and eventually settled in Plainfield, Northumberland Co., PA.  In the 1790's, George B Sober immigrated "over the mountain" West to Greensburg Westmoreland Co., PA., and then to
 Allegheny Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA., near the present day town of Leechburg Westmoreland Co., PA.
 George B Sober bought the original Sober farm deed in 1798.
 The Sober farm is still owned by the Sober Family.

The Rivi Family originated from: 
 Pieve, Berceto, Province of Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy
 They came to escape wide spread poverty and political oppression. Most of the Rivi's came thru Ellis Island New Yory in the  early 1900's immigrating to Rimersburg PA., Freeport PA.,  Westmoreland Co., Leechburg PA.
 Most of the Rivi's became coal miners, which was in 
 great demand at the time.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list.
