About The Henderson Family
At a time the color of a man's skin was the the sole determinate of his options and the direction of his life's path, Newton Henderson, a native son of the Blackfeet Tribe, was born in the life of a slave in Missouri. His family labored all waking hours for their owner's benefit. The work was exhausting. The pain felt at day' end was excruciating, but the family forged forward with the hope of better days to come. The future was bleak for Newton, as the threat of dismemberment or death continously loomed over those who ever dreamed of self-improvement. The Hendersons dreamed anyway. In Newton's lifetime, some of these dreams came true.

Newton Henderson, married Ann and hope was born through the lives of their seven children: Warren, Jane, Allen, Rose, Jim, John, and Major. Newton and Ann's children would live as free Blacks with a semblance of opportunity before them in other states. Warren and Major expanded the family considerably, having five and six children repectively.
