About Sillars from Arran
This listing of names, pictures and events is an expansion of the notable and loving research done by Frederick Sillars of Beverly, MA, in the mid-1970s. His book, "The Chronicles and Genealogy of the Family of Donald and Margaret Sillars" was published in June, 1978, and told the story of the Donald Sillars family as it responded to the Highland Clearances and emigrated to Canada and eventually to New England.
The process of working backwards to establish the Sillars family links to the Isle of Arran and laterally to establish the breadth of the Sillars family introduced many of us to Fred Sillars. He became the family expert and the go-to person when questions of family connections arose.
Through the process of discovery, contacting the many branches of the family, Fred and Merle discovered Edith and Chester Sillars, my Mother and Father. That formed a friendship that lasted until the death of my parents and I am happy to say that I remained in touch with Fred and Merle.
It was with the blessing and approval of Fred, that I built upon his map of the Sillars family and expanded it in cyber-fashion, making it easily available to all of our family and to other families searching for connections.
While the original focus was that of finding deeper roots of the Sillars family, establishing the breadth of the family naturally introduces new family names that add to the richness of all of our families.
I look forward, with everyone's assistance, to continue to collect the names, places and stories of the Sillars family and all adjoining families. If you would like to add your part of the family to this tree, just drop a line.
