About OUR PRECIOUS MEMORIES - Carnes Heritage Tree
Welcome to our family tree site. I ask that you be kind in your comments and patient, as I am disabled at a young age, 56, and in daily pain. Thank you for coming to the site and I hope and pray that what I have amassed here somehow helps you in your quest for information on your ancestors.

May I please request that all who log in to view the site to please help keep the site limited to family and relatives access only, and you the invited guest. If you feel you have ancestors in this tree, please provide me with information that can be verified so that you may be able to access the site. If your information cannot be verified, unfortunately you won't be allowed in. Also, if you have been given access it is up to you to remember the password or pass code that YOU have set up for yourself personally. I do not have access to your password or pass code. If you can't remember your access information and need to have a new invitation sent, that will require cancelling your old access and issuing a new one and you will have to wait over night to receive your new invitation. Please be safe and write it down in a safe place you will remember.

The 2011 Carnes Family Reunion was held in it's usual location, Trinity United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Trinity Church Road, Monroe, Union, NC. This year we had 41 attendees which was great and we appreciate and love each and everyone of you who was able to attend, and pray that others who were not able to attend will be with us next year, we missed you and love you.

In building the Carnes Heritage Tree I have dedicated the site to my father, Marvin Eugene (Gene) Carnes, Sr. and my mother, Gertrude Genora Mills Carnes, who have now both left this earthly place to be with GOD OUR FATHER AND CREATOR.

There are many, many family lines in this tree. Many lines can be extremely removed from the Carnes line but bear in mind, everyone is connected in this tree. I appreciate information on families included in this tree if I have something incorrect please email me with the correct information, I strive to have correct data. If I am missing some information please email me with the missing information. If your family line is connected to anyone in this tree I would love to add your tree info and photos with ours.

This is not just my family tree, if you are listed here it is yours also and I strive to have the correct data on you and your family and ancestors, so by all means please be kind and help to make it the best there is by submitting your correct info to me if I have something not completely correct.

It may take me a little time to get all corrections in and uploaded, please be patient with me. It is my goal to connect as many families together whether you be Carnes, Carns, Hinson, Karnes, Mills, Starnes, Fincher, Lathan, Beaver, Deas, Dease, Laney, Funderburk, Gribble or Griffin just to name a few. I would love for this site to be a place where anyone whose family surname is listed here to be able to find their ancestors or at least enough to give them a solid starting point.

I would also like to express my gratitude for my ancestor the Revenand Jacob Carnes who was fundamental in bringing the gospel and Methodist faith to the Buford Township area, along with others such as David Bruce, eager to spread the gospel through the Methodist faith, helped in establishing the Methodist churches in the area, along with the help of his wife Mary. Those brave souls who fought during the American Revolutionary War for our freedom, saw fit to choose Jacob as their Chaplin during the war to guide and inspire them with the word of God and also preside over burial of fallen soldiers.

******The Carnes ancestors originally resided in Scotland and migrated to***** Ireland in 1610 when it is said King James I of Great Britain granted Alexander Cairns, his cousin, two thousand acres of land in the County of Donegal in Northern Ireland. The original Carnes estate was located near Edinburgh, Scotland, and the Cairns Castle stood there until it was disassembled in about 1906. The spelling of Carnes in 1349 A.D. was deCaryns. The spelling changed to Cairns and thereafter to Carnes, Karnes and Carns. The Cairns Castle was located near East and West Cairns Mountains. Cairn is a Gaelic term meaning "a mound of rocks" and such mounds were either boundary markers, battle site memorials, or memorials to deceased people.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
