MATTAPPILLY family is one of the old and vast families mainly based at Cherai and now scattered all around world.This branch of mattappilly family is popularly known as thundiyil in Cherai. Actually Smt Chacky is related to mattappilly family and her husband Achuthan is from Edakkattu family.As maternal system of hierarchy is existed then Chennan and Kumaran are noted as Kandan Chennan and Kandan Kumaran   .Kandan is from Mattappilly.Her sister is Chacky. After Chennan and Kumaran paternal system of hierarchy was in effect.

 Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little. This site is an attempt to record what I've learned about our family history. In these modern times, families tend to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of this web site is to help our family stay connected even though we live far apart.

How we all got here...

Sakthan Thampuran (1751-1805) of the erstwhile Cochin (now part of Kerala,  India) formed an Ezhava Battalion in his army,headquartered at Trichur, and  Charan was a member of that unit. For reasons not known he later deserted the  army and he is believed to be the forefather of our family.
 He was known as "Kuthirakkaran"(കുതിരക്കാരന്‍), may be because of his army background.

Most of the information furnished here was obtained from talking to  living relatives like my brother M.K.Asokan,cousin M.D.Winsor etc These information were passed  on to them so many family members who passed away. One of them was Sreedharan Vaidyar. We  gathered the information from old documents like title deeds of landed properties etc. from  researching old documents.I have taken every possible 
 effort to see that the details furnished in this site are correct. In case any discrepancy is noticed kindly inform me so that necessary correction can be made.

This is a work in progress.  Suggestions for correction, addition, alteration or deletion are most welcome.The photographs included in this site were obtained from group photos taken on various occasions that I have involved.    More photos of the members are invited now since the site has been upgraded by me recently.  Up to 1000 photos can be uploaded.In the circumstances all the members are requested to send  me or inform me to include the old photos especially that of persons who left us..  I think  with your cooperation photos of all the members can be uploaded. Please contact me if you have  any information that might help round out the picture.
