About Mavromichali and Laganopoulos Families
My connection to the Mavromichalis family is through my mother, Dimitra Mavromichali, whose grandfather Charalambos was the great grandson of Petrobey. The information on this Family Tree was collected from various sources and is correct to the best of my knowledge. If anyone feels there is an incorrect entry please let me know. I have included in the site the names of family members of those who have married into the Mavromichali family. I was greatly aided in my work by the information on another Tribal pages site_Eleni Panagiotarakos' LACONIAN FAMILY TREES.I am hoping that this site will inspire more people to look into their family histories, and that anyone who has more information about this family will contact me so I can complete this tree, and its multitude of branches. If you would like me to add your family names to this tree contact me and I will gladly do so. I will continually be updating this site as I gather more information, so keep checking!
I am also trying to put together the LAGANOPOULOS Family Tree and this is proving a little more difficult. The family originally came from the town of Zatouna in the Peloponese. My grandfather, Georgios, moved to Thesaloniki. His brothers and much of the rest of the family went by the name LAGANIS while he used Laganopoulos.. Some moved to the United States, but as far as I know never married. My grandmother, Fanny KOTOPOULOS and her family, were refugees from Eastern Thrace in the early 1920's. All I know is that she was the only child of Ioannis and Evthoxia from a town called Saranta Eklisies.I have no records. My hope is that someone out there_a lost relative perhaps__can help me fill in the blanks.
Recently, I made contact with a young man in Greece who is a new found relative from Zatouna. He provided me with a list of names of males born in Zatouna in themid-to late 1800's and early 1900's. This information has shed some light on the Laganopoulos family tree showing that the names Laganopoulos and Laganis seemed to have been interchangeable as far back as 19th century Zatouna, and that Laganis was not the Americanized version of Laganopoulos. If anyone out there knows why both Laganis and Laganopoulos might have been used by the same family in the same town, please let me
know. I look forward to making many new connections.__ Effie
