About Newcastle Abbotts
Please sign in to see more. This web site is dedicated to the memory of Vernon and Dorothy Abbott of Newcastle upon Tyne who started the research into their family ancestry. Vernon at the time of his death, was unaware of the fact that his father Robert had a brother John Thomas and that his grandmother was a Ruecroft, the origin of Vernon's second christian name.
The Abbotts of Newcastle commenced circa 1900 with the arrival of Robert Abbott from Darlington and lasted until the death of Dorothy Abbott in 2006, Vernon having died in 2003. Vernon and Dorothy's descendants now live in Northumberland, Durham, the Midlands and the North West.
The Abbott side of the family has been traced back to circa 1545 in the village of Kirklington in the North Riding of Yorkshire. Families connected to the Abbott line by marriage include the Ruecrofts and the Thoburns.
The Dodds side of the family, Dorothy's family, has been traced back to circa 1675 in Northumberland. It is believed that the Dodds originated from Tarset, Northumberland, and were border reivers. Families connected to the Dodds line by marriage include the Ditchburns, Dreadons and Parkinsons. It is requested that all visitors to this site enter their details in the Guest book.
