About Milford Howard Family
The Milford Howard Family History
The Milford Howard Family story begins with Milford and Georgia Ann Thurmond who were married on the 12th day of February, 1871 in Monroe County, Georgia. Very little is known about Milford and Georgia Ann, however, according to the 1880 U.S. Federal Census information, he was listed as a Laborer (28) born in 1852 and she a Housekeeper (22) born in 1858. According to the same census record, they both were born in Georgia and were still residents of Georgia. Both of their parents were also listed as being born in Georgia.

From this union 8 children were born: Alice Howard Ogletree, Lillie Howard Wright, Lena Howard Taylor, Daisey Howard Ragland, Cleo Wyche, Exie Howard Miller, Walter Howard and Jessie Howard.

From the 8 children, 9 grandchildren were born: Alice Howard Ogletree had 1: Minnie Ogletree Blake. Lillie Howard Wright had 4: Christine H. Fielder, Thelmon Wright, Ruth Wootson & Jessie Mae Wright. Lena Howard Taylor had 2: Bertie Mae Miller Brown-Samuel & Exie Mae Taylor Lewis, Daisey Howard Ragland had 2: David Henry Ragland, Jr, and Thomas Ragland, Jessie Howard had 1: Hollis Howard.

On September 4, 1898, Milford (census lists his name as Wilford) married Abbie Walker.
As of June 03, 2019, Milford's eldest great-grandchildren are known to be Gladys Esterlene Felder Colebrook in Miami, Florida and Jowillie Howard in Los Angeles, CA.

There are now over 200 descendants! According to recent family history information, the top surnames are now Brown, Lewis and Colebrook.

Many of the descendants still live in Georgia, others have moved to Alabama, Florida, New York, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Los Angeles and other parts of the United States. The largest states of residence for the descendants appears to be Georgia, Alabama and Florida.

The first formal gathering of the Milford Howard family was held in Birmingham, Alabama in 1985. At that time, the family voted to gather every 2 years and agreed to have the second Reunion in Birmingham in 1987.
