About Young, McGilp, Sands, Coats
Andrew and Margaret(nee Thompson)Young came from Forfar (near Dundee, Scotland) Their daughter Mary
Anne was with them, and daughter Isabella was born on the ship. They sailed on the ship "Chowringhie" from Plymouth on 12 March 1852 and arrived in Hobson's Bay on July 5 1852. Andrew worked at McNaughton's(Melbourne). After some time he went to Clunes to work on the Goldfields. In 1861 he selected land at Rathscar (near Natte Yallock).

The Coates/Coats family are closely entwined with the Young family. For some reason, John Coats always spelt his name without the "e" , although his father used the "Coates" spelling.

Duncan and Ann McGilp came fromNorth Knapdale, County of Argyll, Scotland and settled near Minyip.

Edward Sands came from Scotland and originally went to Beaufort near Ballarat before selecting land at Corack.

A Great Feature of this site is the relationship tab. If you go to the PEOPLE tab, then click on RELATIONSHIPS, you can enter your name and another more distant relative and the site tells you how you are related.
The grandchildren of Walter and Elsie Young held a reunion in Donald in November 2017 which has enabled names and details to be added. If there are errors please contact me and accept my apologies.
