About My Iowa Roots
In the decade between 1869 and 1879, four venturesome young individuals were amongst the millions who immigrated to the United States from Sweden. Through fate, their lives eventually crossed paths in the farmland counties of Montgomery and Page in southwestern Iowa. There, they established homesteads, raised their families, practiced their Lutheran faith, and were eventually laid to rest. This is the story of my Swedish-America progenitors: James Johnson, Carolina Peterson, Gustaf Bergren, and Christina Anderson – their ancestries, their lives, and their legacies.

The ultimate purpose of this site is to provide a complete database of the four branches of my Swedish-American ancestry, including my Swedish progenitors, each of my immigrant ancestors, their numerous immigrant siblings and cousins, and every one of their direct descendants up to the present day. [Note that information related to living individuals is blocked to the general public, but access to this data can be granted to approved relatives by contacting me directly.]

My life-long mission has been to collect and preserve the stories of my ancestors lives before they are permanently lost to the ages. I can imagine nothing sadder than to live a complete life only to be forgotten entirely by history, and even by one's own descendants. I have created this website as a means of making my research accessible to others so that they too can help pass these endangered family stories on to future generations. It is also my hope that others will help me improve and expand this site by sharing with me their own relevant family stories, documents, and photographs.

After viewing my site, please drop me a note to introduce yourself and let me know what you think. I welcome all constructive feedback, questions, and additional information.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
