About Hamilton & Cannon & Other Families
Please sign in to see more.
I am Nancy Virginia Hamilton Wright, and this is information collected by others and myself about my family. There is a list of surnames for you to read. This site is searchable, and family trees, charts and reports can be printed from it.
Everything written here should be accurate and true. If anything is in doubt, I hope I have said so. I have done research in libraries, the national archives, birth, marriage, and death indexes, correspondance with individuals, newspaper clippings and obituaries, saved letters, recent email correspondance with people in this country as well as in Australia, and recently on computer, have consulted the memories of others as well as my own. Some facts are from my own experience, and others I learned by asking questions when I was a child, and getting answers from such people as my grandmother Flo Cannon, my Uncle Lawrence Hamilton, my aunts Bess and Elizabeth Hamilton, and my parents.
More recently help has come from my Aunts Ella Bennett and Jean Pfaff; my double-cousin (both in the Hamilton and Cannon lines) Jerry Hamilton;Dean and Dee Hamilton; my son-in-law's mother Adelina Silveira and her mother, Francesca Leal, and people I have met online who are descended from the Wood family - as are Judie White and Don Vinyard; Australian cousins Dave Wright,Irene Fitzgerald, Paul Mann, Belinda Dornseiff Day, and Dena McAbee and her brother Russell McAbee, and Chanel K. Reid; Janet Goad Hill who married a McGee relative, Trisha Whitlock whose McGee research is also on Tribalpages, Phyllis Sams who is a LaPlante,Deanna O'Reilly who is a Spencer; Michael Miller for sharing his extensive research on Wood, Dalton & LaPlante families in SE Missouri; R.R.Rowlett, Bob Montgomery, LaPlante descendant, Ron Black and his aunt Charlotte
Robinson;Polly & Helen Maes, niece Diane Klingman & her step-dad Rich Osborn,3rd cousin Jerry Cannon Beeler; and
 others. I
can't name them all, unfortunately. And the loan of old photographs from the above as well as my sister Pat Hardig. Modern photos are from today's young families. In the meantime, I am working at filling in the written Sources as opportunity arises. To do this I must recheck U.S. Census records, state birth, marriage and death indexes, newspaper articles, family letters, books and more.
Since this is a Work In Progress, check back from time to time and you will find any new information, including sources.
My parents moved from Jasper co., Missouri in 1941, just before the start of the Second World War, to Stockton, California. Both of my parents, Bob Hamilton and Virginia Cannon, were born and raised in Jasper county, Missouri. Once farmers, the men in both families went to work in lead and zinc mines, my mother's maternal grandfather, Robert Lee McGee inventing mining machinery, including the McGee Coffee Mill.
Because of this he became a working partner in some of the mines. Of course, mines play out, and miners - if they haven't died of diseases or accidents related to their work-need to look for other employment. To do this, they often removed to other areas.
At the present time, I know of no relatives still living in Carterville, although there are some in Duenweg (pronounced Dunn-uh-wegg)and Joplin. This work is meant to be, not only a record of the past, but an attempt to help us find each other, the remains of a family that once knew of each other's existence and whereabouts.
 Please read and enjoy.
Any questions are welcome, and I will try to provide an answer. All additional information, also,is welcome from any cousin, however distant.

Nancy Wright. P.S. You can upload your photos to this site, if you want to.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
