About The Bells of Carleton County, New Brunswick
In the year 1830, Captain William Bell, son of Bejamin Bell and Elizabeth Dob, sold his commission in the army and with his wife Anna, daughter of Arthur Graham, left Northern Ireland with their five sons and two daughters, and sailed to Canada to seek a new home. They landed in Saint John NB, and made their way north via the St. John River to Woodstock, York county. They settled on a 200 acre farm on the north side of the Meduxnekeag River near Jackson Falls. Records show that the land was part of an original grant to a Richard Fitzpatrick. They had seven children: Benjamin, Thomas, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Arthur and Alexander. William and Anna Bell are buried side by side on the north of the Lower church beneath shading elms.
This website has been made possible by my friend Art Fors, whose hobby is genealogy. I asked him if he could help find the father of my grandfather, Robert Bell, and this website is the result. Well over 3000 names are now in the database. All kinds of branches in the family tree are represented for your discovery. The tree is centred on Robert Bell, and reaches back as far as the 1700s and for some branches even earlier. There are currently four or five generations identified since Robert and that is where a lot of the initial work on the website was done. While we are uncertain of Robert Bell's father, we currently speculate that he was Robert II as shown. Robert II was the son of Alexander Bell who was the son of William and Anna who came to Canada in 1830 as described above.
Lately, in 2008 Lene Ovesen has been adding a lot of information about the Danish side of my family, going back into the 1600s. And at the end of 2010, I have been adding new information about the Rayworth and Ingledew side of the family.
