The names on this website are extracted from Births, Deaths and Marriages reported in both the Nelson Examiner and the Nelson Colonist, as published on Papers Past.  In some cases references to the records on the New Zealand Births Deaths and Marriages website have been added and this will be continued as time allows.  Note that it is necessary to check the BDM registration numbers, as some of them have changed since they were first added, because of upgrades by NZBDM.

Note that in the Nelson Examiner of 13 November 1847 there is a report that the Governor "laid on the table a Bill, entitled, an Ordinance for registering Births, Deaths and Marriage, within the Colony".  

Before November 1853, Birth, Marriage and Death notices were usually placed at the end of page 4 of each paper. After that date, they were placed above the Nelson Examiner header on page 2.
